New BMW 116D
Discuss...
I was quite shocked when I saw the advert in the newspaper. Wasn't even expecting it. I suppose they are seing an increasing trend in people opting for more greener cars and it's a consumer led decision to produce this model/engine.
Though I would say 116BHP from a 1.6 Diesel engine is quite impressive, I didn't think the the average BMW buyer would want a badge that signified that (base) engine size (from £17,605). This may just be limited to 1 series tho. Saw an advert in same paper last week for the 330D coupe, again relatively good eco credentials for an engine that size.

Debadgeing is always a no cost option on a BMW the only thing that is no cost mind you!0

Not so much seeing the trend as leading it. BMW are miles ahead with their Efficient Dynamics technology, leaving most other manufacturers on the back foot. There is definitely a trend towards smaller engines, for example something like 90+% of 5 series are now 520ds, so i guess a smaller but effective engine in the one series makes sense. I see they are doing a 'free' upgrade from ES spec to M Sport, which i guess would probably result in quite a nice little hatchback.

Its not a 1.6, its a detuned 2.0.
As someone else said, i guess most will be debadged....0 -

Easiest way to tell a poverty spec model is to look at the exhausts. Generally on Beemers 4 cylinder petrols and diesels have a single exhaust and 6 cylinder models have double exhausts.
When I see a debadged car I wonder how insecure the driver is.The man without a signature.0 -

I'm wondering will we see a time when people 'advertise' the fact that they have the most eco friendly model, rather than it being seen as 'poverty spec'?0 -

LMAO! They are the same ones who put "M" badges on the bootlid of the povvy spec cars lol.
520d's aint no ball of fire. 525d as an auto is deadly! 530 is decent anough, but I#d rather have petrol cos BMW derv's don't halkf smell...0 -

Well seeing as most models have Efficient Dynamics even the people with higher powered models could claim to be eco-friendly.The man without a signature.0 -
Veru true.Debadgeing is always a no cost option on a BMW the only thing that is no cost mind you!
I should have realised about the engine size too...
the M Sport in Alpine White (if you're into that trend) would do nicely. Get a decent Remap later on and you've still got a decent motor for little cash.
By the way, what do we all think about the recent trend on these cars in White? A bit chavvy/gangasta/wannabe?0 -
I think they look ok tho some people have gone too far - was following a brand new Galaxy in white the other day. It looked more like a camera crew car...0

Yup, gotta be limited to Audi/BMW/Merc.harveybobbles wrote: »I think they look ok tho some people have gone too far - was following a brand new Galaxy in white the other day. It looked more like a camera crew car...
Doesn't really work on super cars like Lambo/Ferrari. I suppose they look good in all colors (maybe not the Lime Green Lambo they drove on top gear)
I like the C Class and 3 series coupe when they have the balck roof... is that the panoramic option?0 -
Must be the sun roof option.I like the C Class and 3 series coupe when they have the balck roof... is that the panoramic option?
Interesting development the 116d, 0-100kmh in 10.2 seconds pretty decent but to be honest not quick enough to get the speed up quick enough to take full advantage of the chassis capabilities on the bends.
Considering better residuals and lower running costs this is a £17K car that will in the long run cost about the same as most £15K cars, so very competitive on costs.
