Ford Focus Hatchback 1.6 TDCi 110 DPF Titanium 3dr what car target price £15,574, over 3 years total cost of ownership £13,616.
What car cant keep up at the moment, shopping last weekend for a Ford Kuga, dealership undercut the Target price by £2000, I would suspect the Focus to be similar or better. The BMW is too new to have a discount close to the 'pile em high knock em out' Ford.
That would still make the Ford £2000 less to own over the 3 years. (waits for people to say its worth the diference)Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
I think they are probably in about the right place on the 1 series discount. What car cant keep up at the moment, shopping last weekend for a Ford Kuga, dealership undercut the Target price by £2000, I would suspect the Focus to be similar or better. Helped my Mum with her 120i SE convertible order in Autumn last year and got 8% discount from a BMW main dealer.
BMW are likely to restrict supply rather than allow discounts to get much bigger than that. They have too much to loose if they cannot keep residuals strong in the longer term.0 -
8% is BMW's core margin so under normal circumstances you'd do well to get anything better than that.
However if they happen to have a big inventory of BMW 1'series they might go further but for the reason's Adrian pointed out i doubt it. Also 1 series is probably one of the stronger models on the line up so your more likely to get something chunky of the big petrol models.
Re the black roof, on M3 coupes this is the carbon roof! On other run of the mill cars i'd imagine it will be pan sunroof0 -
BMW 116D???
I wanted a BMW but this was all i could afford!0 -
"I want a BMW but can't really afford one, so I'll order a 116d..."
goes nicely with...
"I want a jazzy soft top but can't really afford to run it, so I'll buy a 320d convertible/Audi A4 2.0tdi..."0 -
I have stood on faster glaciers.
Relative to what your used to I suppose.
Something around 10 seconds 0-60 I find quick enough to be acceptable and not frustrating to drive. When I'm buying for myself I'm looking for about 8 seconds or under.
The other thing is torquey diesel under normal day to day driving conditions (i.e. not on a track) generally feel faster than their 0-60 time suggests. 50-70mph in 4th gear acceleration on a 2005 330i and a 2005 320d is almost the same (330i just 0.1 seconds quicker).
If I was spending my own money I would probably go and by a young Ford Focus with a faster engine rather than a 116d.0 -
Must be the sun roof option.
Interesting development the 116d, 0-100kmh in 10.2 seconds pretty decent but to be honest not quick enough to get the speed up quick enough to take full advantage of the chassis capabilities on the bends.
Considering better residuals and lower running costs this is a £17K car that will in the long run cost about the same as most £15K cars, so very competitive on costs.

BMW 116d ES (M Sport free upgrade) what car target price £17,451, over 3 years total cost of ownership £13,670
The 116d ES 3 door is £15,470 on Broadspeed and the Focus is £14,121.The man without a signature.0
