I didnt think that paypal took any money when you do an item not received thing - I once did one and got all my money back!

I did two claim backs through PayPal in the same week both were small amounts (under £20) and I got the whole amount back, I had thought I'd be charged £15 cos I'd read it somewhere - but even then it was the principal of the thing not the money.

Only if they seller still has the money in their account. Otherwise Paypal say sorry, tough. Then you have to cliam via eBay they deduct £15 from the claim. However eBay still payout even if the seller doesnt have funds.

They definately do if claiming for an ebay item which you normally are! I made a claim about 3 weeks ago as a dodgy buyer took my paypal payment(after i won his item) and then resold item immediately to another bidder. They charge £15 for getting the money for you from the buyer but obviously(and irritatingly) they take their money first and if buyer has only the funds that you put in you may be £15 down as they only recover what buyer has in his paypal account. So i am £15 down because of this.

I've been trying to look into this further, but the PayPal help pages are very confussing, so I may have this wrong...

I think if you do a chargeback on a seller who has PayPal Buyer Protection (on their listings, they have a little shield symbol with a tick on it) then you come under their "PayPal Buyer Protection Policy" and won't be charged. However, if you do a chargeback for an eBay item on a buyer who doesn't have this protection, then you come under their "Buyer Complaint Policy" and I think that as part of this, PayPal uses eBay’s Standard Purchase Protection Program to reclaim the money, even though you are making the complaint through PayPal, and you are therefor charged £15 to cover this cost.

Like I say, it is very confusing though so maybe somebody else can confirm this?

Apologies to Mandles for doubting her. :o

I accidently sent a small package to a friend with only her name, postcode and town on it (stupid I know! I was rushing, and thought Id written the whole thing out the night before, when in fact I wanted to check I wrote the address down correctly so only wrote the bit I knew was right!.*doh!*....... popped it into the postbox without thinking, til i got home I realised what Id done........! (Id already put stamps on it the night before...was trying to be all organised! lol) anyway.... the post office still posted it to the right address! If its got the postcode on it, and name, they can still deliver it, no idea what they do to get the house number etc, perhaps llok it up on pc or something?) but you can ring the post office sorting depot, explain whats happened, take a print off of your ebay win and prooof of who you are, and the senders details, and they will at least hold it for you until they have the proof they need to release it to you, or they will just give it to you. (if it does have the senders address on the back, they will send it back to them, it would be the senders responsibility to resend it to you again correctly paying postage themselves).they should of least emailed you to ask for confirmation of your address, cant imagine anyone knowingly posting a parcel with just the postcode on it! ... have you emailed the seller and asked? (also ask what day they sent it etc as your in touch with the post office about it)
Unsent items are kept in the post office for a maximum amount of time ( which I think depends on the method sent, ie recorded,1st class etc) worth getting in touch with them asap! :)

  • Since each postcode only covers a fairly small number of addresses, in the absence of a return address I'd expect the parcel to arrive at the correct sorting office for the postcode. If you follow tatts' advice, chances are they'll find and hand over the parcel.
I actually have no idea what happens to undeliverable mail which isn't matched to its rightful owner within a set time period. I think it goes to a central depot somewhere after a few weeks, but after that I don't know.
