ebayer sent me item without address

I did not recieve my item because the wrong address was written on it when I emailed the seller to find out. Apparently only half of my address was written on it (county and postcode) as the house number and street name was not included. This happened because the seller copied down the wrong address info from ebay. What can I do now? What actually happens to the item? Does it get sent back to the post office or is there anyway I or the seller can track it down?

If the seller wrote their adrdress on the reverse of the package as they should do, then it will be returned to them. But as your seller is clearly an idiot (I mean, who sends poarcels without a street name and number ?) they probably didn't bother with this step. If you paid via paypal, start a chargeback.

if it was sent recorded delivery it should come back to seller. If not open a paypal dispute if you hopefully paid by paypal and that will hold your money until you get package or if you dont get it it refunds you(paypal may take fee of £15 too so you may not get it all back)

Paypal don't take a £15 fee whereas an ebay claim will make an admin charge of £15.

Its the sellers fault as they didnt do the address properly - have they admitted this? I would do a claim through paypal assuming this is how you paid?

Assuming you paid by paypal then I agree with the other posts and suggest you get a claim in quick. If the package was incorrectly addressed then the seller will have no claim from the Royal Mail so may well try and wriggle out of refunding you once they realise that.

They definately do if claiming for an ebay item which you normally are! I made a claim about 3 weeks ago as a dodgy buyer took my paypal payment(after i won his item) and then resold item immediately to another bidder. They charge £15 for getting the money for you from the buyer but obviously(and irritatingly) they take their money first and if buyer has only the funds that you put in you may be £15 down as they only recover what buyer has in his paypal account. So i am £15 down because of this.
So you are fine if buyer sells a lot but if he just sells the odd thing (which the dodgy ones often seem to do..under 20 feedback) then you are stuffed!
  • Would'nt it be worth checking the local post offices,( the post code should get it near to you ) if the sender has not put a 'from' addy on they might still have it.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • What size was the item? If it was sent by parcelforce of Royalmail standard parcel service then the post office cannot send them anymore without the correct address inputted into their PCs- therefore your seller is telling you a porkie if he said it was sent!
  • And just to note, I've had a chargeback recently about a non received item, I received the full amount, no £15. To the best of my knowledge this is only when claiming through Ebay (as stated above)

Same here. According to the help pages, it is the seller who is charged any fee (£7 if not covered by the Seller Protection Policy)...

What is the chargeback settlement fee?

The chargeback settlement fee covers the cost of processing chargebacks. PayPal charges this fee to sellers who are determined to be at fault for credit card payment chargebacks.

When a seller receives funds through PayPal, and the buyer's transaction is reversed and the seller doesn't qualify for the Seller Protection Policy, the seller will be held liable for the amount of the reversed transaction plus a chargeback settlement fee. Sellers agree to reimburse PayPal from their PayPal account or by other means as described in the Payments Policy.

PayPal will only remove the chargeback fee for those transactions that are SPP eligible. The chargeback fee will be assessed in the currency of the payment.

The chargeback settlement fee will be charged in the currency of the payment. See our Fees Policy.
