i have so many things to get done this week that i just keep putting off... why am i reading mse boards when i should be working on my business?!
someone kick me
Get your diary out. On Tuesday write what you are going to do on Tues, on Wed the same, on Thurs and on Frid the same. You will feel good. Have a coffee and stare into space enjoying how productive and good you feel!!
Do the first thing on Tues list. Feel good and productive. Have a reward (flapjack and coffee again in my case). Enjoy the feeling so much that you want to do it again.
Do another thing on list. Make sure you cross it off with glee! When you've done all of Tuesdays things get out, shut off the office or wherever and do something completely different.
Do the same for the rest of the week. Don't feel so good after one thing that you think you've done enough for the week though, which is what I sometimes do. I'm rubbish at taking my own advice. But I'm going to do the above today and really bottom things out.
Have fun, Jan0 -
Morning all. A whole day in the office for me today - my favourite work place to be (sadly, probably my favourite place to be, work or no).
Have spent three days in the shop - my normal two and then covering for someone else. 38 hours in three days - tiring and gets in the way of doing my freelance stuff, but quite enjoyable anyway. Spent about 20 mins yesterday trying to prise a 5c piece from out under the ice-cream freezer - then when I went into the office to do some bookkeeping the boss came in brandishing a €5 note, saying "Look what I just found on the floor." Sometimes life is just SO unfair!
One of the locals came in and said to me, "I see you've taken your hay barn down." All I could say was "Have I?" I have been staying with a friend for a while (caravan got flooded out - seven burst pipes [yes, seven - how can there be that many in a caravan] and boiler stopped working, so went to stay with a friend and haven't managed to leave again yet) and only visiting the caravan in the dark to check all OK. When lovely boss got back he let me off for half an hour to visit hovel and yes, there was no hay barn! I did actually sell it about three years ago but buyer came once and then disappeared. So, was it him that took it, or did someone nick it? No mean feat, it was huge and had big iron pillars holding it up. I am not going to ask too many questions, in case it wasn't original person and he asks for his money back. The barn was going to have to go sometime, and I would probably have had to pay someone to take it down, so if someone did nick it they did me a favour really. All the same ... how embarrassing that someone had to tell me that this huge structure was missing from my garden.:o
Today I have lots to do:- [strike]submit competition answers on-line for crosswords etc that could (but probably won't) win me a few pounds[/strike] Done
- [strike]complete a membership list to send to client as an Excel file [/strike]Done, but not yet heard back as to whether it is OK
- [strike]read second proofs of a children's maths book[/strike] Done, thank God, but didn't get it in the post - has been hanging over me and I haven't enjoyed doing it one bit
- cross-check answers in a different children's maths book Not done - shame on me
- phone student to arrange a computer lesson Not done - must do tomorrow
- [strike]check bank balances (noooooooooooooo!)[/strike] Checked (noooooooooooooo!)
- [strike]put earnings from shop onto credit card for necessary visit to England next week.[/strike] Done
Downshifter, I'd ask for your money from the shop. It's not acceptable that they made a mistake that takes a month to rectify. Even if they just advance £100 and sort out the paperwork next payday to get the precise figures, they should honour what they owe you now.
Skintjenny, consider yourself kicked. Do an easy job first, so that you get in the work mood and on a roll.
Have a happy working-for-yourself day, all."Green pastures are before me,

I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Discovered first mistake of the day: have arranged to visit client on Monday morning as I thought I was catching a plane to England that evening and wouldn't be able to go to client to do payroll later in the week, and person driving me to the airport has just told me that my flight isn't at 6.30 in the evening, it's at 6.30 in the morning. Oh, dear, client not going to be happy, his employees aren't going to be happy, driver of lift to the airport not happy, me not happy; dog going to be well-not happy at having to get up early. And here I am, offering an admin service to people, and I can't even tell the time properly! But what luck somebody with a bit more nous than me noticed."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"

wordsmith, that is hilarious, I hope you can rebook the meeting and keep the client happy.
I'm fed up with myself as I have masses of work this week - 9 short articles to write first and more to come when that's finished - and am I doing it? No, I'm sitting here reading the bloomin' internet. What's my problem? I'll log off now in shame and not come back til I've done at least 3.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Seaxwyn, if you get off your @rse (or rather stay on it, as I assume you sit down to write) and write your first article, I will get off (stay on) my @rse and sort out client's membership Excel file. Perhaps when first bit of work done, we will be kick-started into doing the rest. Report back here at 1 p.m. with no. of articles written.
PS How did you get your writing work? Yes, I'm being nosy. Yes, I'm picking your brains to further my own [STRIKE]career[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]professional status [/STRIKE] bank balance."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"

and if anyone is interested in using accounts software try this for free
http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/transaction/index.htm
I am in no way connected to this site, but I use their accounts package to produce accounts.....this is an excellent book keeping package based on excel and is easy to use.
can be downloaded free from here..http://www.vtsoftware.co.uk/tranplus/index.htm
Hi thanks for this link. Is it me or this software is not free? Well it's free on trial until october/2009, but it seems like you need to buy the licence after this period.0 -
Not free. £125 + VAT after the trial, or £199 + VAT if you want final accounts too.0

How'd it go, Seaxwyn?
I have been getting on with my membership list. Had some problems with macros, but worst ones sorted now, I think. Enjoyed doing the work, but this job was supposed to be the shortest of the three major things I needed to do today - and now it's lunch time! Will have to work on into the evening, methinks.
Will finish the spreadsheet, then have a cuppa to refuel for the next job."Green pastures are before me,

I've just popped on to see what rash promises I made yesterday about how many months accounts i'd do - I said up until July and i'm up to June...not too bad. Best go and finish them!0
