...also if you are going to be there for only 6 months i'd watch out as most providers (even BT) have a 12 month min contract, so you may get stung for the whole year of you cant move it to your next place...0

You have the right to stay in a property if you have a signed AST, even if repossed the mortgage company should honor the tenancy.
Just in case you or anyone else isn't aware and puts themselves at risk. Be aware.
Appallingly the government has not legislated to protect tenants in the case of repossession. Although some mortgage companies might decide to allow you to stay until the end of your tenancy, they are not obliged to do so, and in fact tenants can find themselves given very short notice to leave.
Safest tenancies are where the landlord/lady owns the property outright (no mortgage/mortgage paid off), which you can check for on the Land Registry website for £3 per property search.
Obviously no guarantee and you don't always have the luxury of choosing a mortgage-free property to rent, and often mortgage companies will at least give you reasonable notice time, but it is important to be aware of the legal situation.0 -
I wouldn't do that OP, without consulting the LL first incase it causes problems. It wouldn't bother me, but it seems some LL's are fussy about which firms service their properties. Check your AST before doing anything, and see if there are any clauses about doing this, or better still, discuss with the LL before you agree to take on the property.

We took out a 12 month contract with Virgin when we rented a flat on a 6 month AST. However, we then moved to a new flat with no cable (management committee decided it was common and no resident would want it so refused the cabling when the building was built).
We had to pay Virgin £5 per month per service to get out of the contract. As we had TV, landline and a V+ box it was £104.39 for our final bill, £90 of which was the contract termination penalties. However, we knew there was a chance of this happening at the beginning and took out Virgin via Quidco and got £75 cashback for taking it out so really only cost £15.
Do miss the V+ box though. Three tuners was perfect because there's either nothing on or two things at once!0 -
Well the chances are that the place we go to will either have a BT line - in which case we can just transfer over and continue being a customer for however many months they want so they should be ok with that or it will have a cable line like this one which we don't want and so will have to pay the fee again so I don't think BT will complain
BTW this is a house - we won't be getting a flat so shouldn't have to worry about management committees (I hope!)0
