Equifax "30 Day FREE Trial" - Cancelling Hassle

Options
Does anyone have a telephone number, other then the 0870 one they advertise, for Equifax please?

I have been signed up to their 30 day FREE Trial and now want out but they are insisting on requiring me to contact them on one of these insidious non geographic 0870 numbers which I know is going to cost me over the odds.

I just don't understand (well I do really - they just want to make a few bob out of me) why they need to speak to me to cancel as they were more than happy for me to sign up and give my personal details to them on their website. I don't think I will use them or recommend them again especially as I have had brilliant customer service from Experian and a FREEPHONE telephone number as well!

I've just cancelled on the 0870 number and what an effort. Only got options that didn't apply and if I typed nothing it would just repeat (rather than connecting to a real person like normally happens). Finally got an unfriendly woman who asked my name and address then what product do you have? I couldn't remember what it was called but surely she had my details in front of her?! Once I confirmed it was "gold" she then cancelled...
  • When I had the free trial, I just cancelled by e-mail, no problems at all.

The main reason is usually to try and retain you.

I just signed up for the Equifax free trial. I noticed there was nowhere on the site to cancel.

Experian were much better, even though I forgot to cancel and ended up being charged £50 they refunded me with no hassle.

Just to let people know that on day 25 of my trial, I sent them an email to confirm cancellation.

They billed my account on what would have been day 32. Of course, I shall be fighting this.

I then got an email from them yesterday in response to my cancelling email (8 days later) saying I cannot cancel by email and that I need to call them to cancel.

So be warned - best to cancel over the phone.

I did the same as you The Boss, (mostly cause I hate talking to actual people, usually much more articulate in writing) and they replied with the email that I also had to ring in and cancel. Though I think it only took them about three days to reply, just managed to get in there before they charged me!!

Funnily enough, went through the rigmarole of the phone menu option blah option blah option blah de blah, then got through to a bored sounding woman that obviously didn't give a crap about her targets who asked my details, and said its cancelled as of now, no questions asked!
