Is that a 5% dilution of vinegar or 5% vinegar (5% acetic acid and 95% water) used neat?

The latter according to that link. I'm not an expert. Just sharing something I had found :)

I use white vinegar usually, and there is no 'chip shop' smell at all after the wash is finished. Soft clothes, fluffy towels and it saves a fortune on fabric softener.

If you make a vinegar solution and soak the offending articles (white shirts with BO stains) it will reduce the staining and kill the bacteria, but it is far too dilute in the main wash.

Scrubbed the bath with bicarb and vinegar. Tiles are sparkling and the tub is gleaming. Haven't done any other housework in days, so that made me feel all virtuous!

Tomorrow night, I will be using red wine vinegar to make onion marmalade.

White vinegar with a few drops of essential oil in ( tea tree, lavender, citronella) & shaken up: as fabric softener in my washes, diluted to 20% with water to spritz on the kids' hair to smooth it down & prevent nits & finally used as household cleaner.
White vinegar straight: for dishwasher instead of rinse liquid, with bicarb for drains & diluted to 30% to clean kettle.
Been doing this for about 3 years now & the savings are huge!
    :D
However I get panicky when I'm down to my last 5 litre bottle... today I only have 2 litres left in the house (supermarket out of stock) - eeeek!

I use white pickling vinegar in an old softener bottle (1.5l) with 5 drops each of lavender, tea tree & citronella essential oil in.
Fill bottle, add drops (whichever essential oil you prefer), shake well & leave till next day preferably.
Et voilà, NO chip shop smell!!!:j

    hi there,

i have been reading a rather lengthy article by ecomum dot com about her research into white vinegar and possible uses with salad dressing or other food stuff, and basically she says that you need to check on the label, it should say it's distilled and fermented spirit vinegar, otherwise its most probs petroleum derived manufactured acetic acid and very dangerous unless you want to clean your washing machine or kitchen floor! Hope you find this tip useful!
    :D

ps: ive only just discovered the petroleum vinegar and i used it to clean the dishwasher, the washing machine and the kettle, next i'm going to try the loo....i don't eat salad so i'm safe lol.

I did a Forum search for info on this but no luck. All I want to know is do I use neat white vinegar or add water to it for general cleaning e.g. kitchen tops, shower screen, windows etc. If add water then it what proportion of vinegar to water?

    Thanks.
