I stopped using conditioner some time last year after reading about it on here.
I use about half the recommended dose of powder/liquid wash too.
I save the powder to use on a white wash and always bung in a handful of soda crystals and a capful of white vinegar instead of softener in all washes - i usually only do a quick 30 wash (about 30 minute cycle) and most washing comes out well, also I tend to do smaller washes so that they rinse better.
My son has inherited my tender skin and hasn't noticed any difference.
btw a bottle of white vinegar last about 4 times longer that a bottle of nice smelly softener and it doesn't leave the drawer covered in black slimey stuff - win win.
    xx

When my DD eczema is bad we just use soap nuts in her wash......they foam from a natural plant based soap so it doesn't seem to aggravate her skin. I get them on eBay. Generally though I can get away with a half dose of bio liquid and vinegar or soda crystals though.

I, too, normally use white vinegar instead of fabric conditioner but my daughter has an acrylic dressing gown that she loves which crackles like crazy with static electricity & so I have started to use a small cupful of supermarket's own basic conditioner in the wash with it - problem solved! :)

I have a Tefal steamer and it says to use white vinegar to get rid of the limescale. I have white wine vinegar, is that the same? And would malt vinegar do the job as well? The instructions say not to use anything else for the limescale.

White wine vinegar's not the same - it's the clear stuff you want. I use Sarson's distilled malt vinegar from the supermarket (although not in a steamer).

White vinegar is malt, just without the colouring. I'd baulk at using good wine vinegar for cleaning anything.

I don't actually like vinegar and only have it in the house because my flatmate left it when she moved out. It'll sit there forever unless I find a use for it.

You can use white wine in a pinch, though it's the spendy option. I get a five litre jug of it from the Asian market for a couple of pounds and it lasts for about six months of cleaning, laundry, descaling and chips :)
