The egg white spread on face and throat (after a good cleansing session) does tighten the skin and makes it soft and lovely. I do this quite often. Haven't had the guts to do the yolk on hair thing though...:o

Nope, its no good, I just can't do it any more. I'm fed up with crispy towels and crispy underpants and rough nasty old t-shirts.

If you folks are managing to get soft fabrics from using cheap-as-chips washing powder cut down with washing soda, then white vinegar and essential oil as fabric conditioner - then I must be doing something quite catastrophically wrong!

I finaly gave in and bought an Asda 50p fabric conditioner - and although I'm not struck on the intensity of the fragrance (although its not as heavy as lots of them!), I am very much struck by the improvement in the feel of the fabrics, not to mention how much more easily things are ironing, again!

So tell me what I've been doing wrong!! Or is it just that I'm a girly wuss who can't cope with being sandpapered by my clothes??
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

PoshPaws you made me laugh. Some things are not worth the effort. I always thought I would end up smelling like a chippy, so i've never tried the vinegar thing. Good luck to all the people who have got it sussed.:rotfl:

Iv'e never got the hang of it either so can I join the wuss club! I put it down to not using the dryer as I always hang my washing outside so they don't soften up IYKWIM.
To justify buying fabric conditioner now I get what evers on offer, using Lenor at the moment as it was about 86p.

I use vinegar and my washing is soft but I think that has more to do with me using a tumble dryer

I had exactly the same experience, now i have gone back to using Ariel powder and fabric conditioner. Some things it isnt worth economising on.

Only thing i will carry on using is borax because its worked wonders on my towels.

By using fabric conditioner on towels you are cutting thier absorption qualities by nearly half !

Nothing more invigorating than a rub down with a rough towel !

Absolutely! I've never quite seen the point of FC - even jeans don't seem to cause that much of a problem; the clothes all soften up within minutes with body heat anyway.

Stuart264 - what do you do with the borax for your towels? Do you use it on its own or mix it with washing powder or what?

    Thanks,
    Daisy
