    Don't go, Toto!

Mum still hasn't rang, but I have applied to about 6 jobs, at least 6, could be more, was just like 'Apply, apply, apply'

Toto, you seem really down...please dont go:o

Well, the nurse has been out to do a memory loss assessment on MIL and it seems that the range of memory loss she has is actually normal for her age (71) and not of "concern" to them.

It looks as though we are just going to have to put measures in place to help her remember things.

Dont know if I am pleased or even more concerned.

    I am delighted it's not Alzheimers though:T

As you say Louise it must be difficult to know wether to be pleased or not.
What kind of measures can you put in place to help her remember then?

My memory is really terrible now, and i don't want to make light of your MIL's situation at all, but i really worry what i will be like when i'm older....

i forget things like the age of my brothers n sister and pets, i can't recall conversations from a few months ago, i have very few memories of when i was little (only have notional memories of those things in photos, but it's more an image than a memory)......

short term is poor too, i put toast on and forget it... i am bad...

i suppose specialist might be able to advise on some kinds of coping/management mechanisms for her, do you have to go back Louise?

it sucks that you have to be the one doing all the worrying though Lou... you need to get her own kids involved too as well as you and Mike... you shouldn't bear the brunt of it

Well there are lots of things, we have been given a list.

Carry a notebook around at all times (which I have suggested but she ignored)
Buy a wipe clean notice board for her to write appointments on
Keep a drawer/box for important things that she needs daily

Problem is that we both work and MIL doesnt live on our doorstep and by her choice she has no friends who visit, and this might sound really horrible but I dont get on with her and never have..............

Guess its our duty to care for her though.

    That is good news Lou.
Memory is a strange thing as you get older. Does she accept that she forgets things? If so you are halfway there and can put things in place to help.

My mother will not accept that she forgets things we have told her - where I am going etc (at my age !). She turns really nasty when we say we have told her and insists that we are wrong.

(Still not told her about Manchester!).
