I paid £17.50/hr with student discount with BSM in 2000 (they were awful) and now I am paying £19/hr (no student discount) with an independent instructor who is much better. With a block booking, I can get my lessons as cheap as £17/hr. :j

I used to pay £16 for two hours back in 1999. The instructor was a friend of my mams so I guess this had something to do with it lol.0

I pay 20 an hour on weekdays and 23 on weekends.
But the strange thing is that I was told midway my classes afetr I booked my test that he would charge me £69 for the test, including 1 hour of practice before test. I have no idea why????I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0 -
Does that not include the test fee itself?0

Sadly, It does not include the test fee in the £69 he is asking. The sad part is that he didnt tell me this when I started lessons. So I am thinking to find a new instructer with a car free on the day of the test, but the only problem is that I need to have few lessons in the new car as well in order to get used to the car.
Or may be i might end up shelling 69 quid to this chap, hopefully passing the test.
This 69 pounds include when i asked him
1 hr of lesson before test and the test (which usually lasts for 1 hour)
And he dropping me back to my home.
Is there anything I can do abt it?
Should i tell him that, I need to find another instructer as it is not fair.
I will call up another instructer and see what he says about the fees for the test.
ThanksI wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0 -
I paid £18 a lesson last year but I knew the instructor - his usual fees were £20/hour and are now £21.0

About 3 years ago, I was paying around £8 per hourI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

Bargain! That's certainly not the going rate!0 -
Nifty- It has been almost 6 years and u have not go around to passing your test? I guess u must have put driving on hold for a few years.
I used to pay £12.50 an hour with a company named CIA back in 1996. Maybe not so cheap back then but it was one of the cheapest I could find.
My instructor charge me 3x the rate when it comes to test day, £37.50. He said it was the standard charge, cant see what so standard about it as 1 lesson before test, plus test and drive home another 1 hour. I think this is common practise by all instructors to make more money from usually skint learners.
Last year I negotiate for a friend and booked 35 hour lessons for £500
with a company named https://www.learnerdriving.com0 -
Mine (last year) were £22 per hour, or block bookings of 10 for £200.0
