NO one else in the company is getting made redundant, they reviewed the it department.... but with the incident last week and his boss been funny i think oh will be made redundant so i dont know how it worrks but oh said it would be next week but what a flaming thing to do to someone at the end of a week so you have all weekend to worry over it i feel sick with it things were just going to start coming together i finish payin amrquee and loan this month so we would have had an extra 700 pm so if he looses job who knows what sort of an affair we will be in

Seems strange that he is the only one, are they up to something? What happened last week (if you don't mind me asking - you don't have to say if you don't want).

dont you have to be councelled properly when redundant? what is the proper procedure? should he take advice from someone?

i pm'd you tmd, mrs c i dont know the procedure but i think its not called for to tell people on a friday it causes undue stress .... ohs aunt is a hr manager he is phoning her see what he can find out x i feel thourghly well i cant say

no not you mrs c .... tmd re the other incident.... they will do the procedures next week interviews or point systems who know whats they do but i feel sick about it

mrsc / htgdf - If it is less than 20 people being made redundant it can happen very quickly. 20 or more they have to consult for around 30 days. 100 or more - it would be 90 days consultation.

For 1 redundancy the company could have a couple of meetings and as long as he gets an opportunity to say why he should stay and they show they considered alternatives to redundancy (even if redundancy goes ahead) then they can just do it.

They still need to show a fair selection process, the right people should be in the redundancy pool that they are selecting from eg if there are 4 engineers - all 4 would normally be in the pool unless there are really clear reasons why the other 3 should be excluded... Even then the company should have some documented reasons why the others aren't in the pool etc....

Even in redundancy situation you would still be entitled to your notice period on top of redundancy pay. Some companies make you serve your notice, some people pay it in lieu.
