Yes they were blue screen but went too quickly for me to read what they said.
  • That's ok. Each time there's a bluescreen error, Windows should produce a dump file to the hard drive of exactly what was happening at the time of the error and these are stored in C:\Windows\Minidump. If you any of these around the times the machine crashed, PM me for my email address and I'll open them up and pinpoint the exact cause.

You may have to show hidden files and folders to see them.

To all that are looking for faulty drivers ~
The machine is trying to run TWO anti virus programs scanning at the same time
    (possibly 3?)

Its possibly a faulty driver. But im 99% sure the av progs will cause all sorts of problems

"I downloaded avg the other day as my tesco internet security would not run a scan for me. Tesco have contacted me today by email and have asked me to download the full Panda Internet Security Pack which they say is better for vista. It was while downloading this that the computer crashed again tonight."

I have uninstalled Tesco & Panda Security. I have just tried to run a scan and log on HijackThis and the following window appears:

"For some reason your system denied write access to Host File. If any hijack domains are in this file HijackThis may not be able to fix this. If that happens you need to edit the file yourself."

Then the notepad file that pops up is dated last night. Any solutions.

    Thanks

remove hijack, delete any txt files from your computer that were made by hijack

    Run LSPFIX

    Download HostsXpert
    http://majorgeeks.com/Hoster_d4626.html
and then follow the below steps.

    * Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    * It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    * Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    * click the Make Writeable? button.
    * click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    * Click the X to exit the program

Reboot and download hijack and try again

Removed Hijack and tried to run LSPFIX got the following message:

Winsock 2 registry Key HKey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2\Parameters) is missing or could not be accessed.

Reboot and keep pressing F8 until the 'safe mode selection screen' pops up

Try both the FIX and the HOSTS program in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

Worked in safe mode. Here is the hijack log. Will now install aviva if log is ok.
