Nortons Error Message

Options
Hi to all
Ok have upgraded to Nortons 2006 (removed old copy before I installed my new one) great BUT I keep getting an error message saying something like "Microsoft outlook is not set up as your default email run outlook to set it as your default".
Now I use outlook express and I have run outlook express and this should be my default but I still get the same note everytime I turn on my computer! Any ideas?

  • In Outlook Express, click Tools - Options - General tab. At the bottom does it say 'This application is the default Mail handler'? If not, click Make Default and then OK.

In Internet Explorer, click Tools - Internet Options - Programs tab and make sure that Outlook Express is set as the email program.

Reboot your computer and see if that has fixed the problem.
  • Thanks fo that Chippy but it hasn't helped. :-(
    Any more ideas?

er, go to Start >>> Control Panel >>> Double-click Add/Remove Programs >>> select Norton's products and click Remove :)

I'm pretty sure I had something similar when I first installed Norton Internet Security 2005. I don't have it installed anymore, but somewhere in Norton is had your email program specified (so it knows which email programs to scan for viruses, and also for use of the other filtering it could do (mihgt have been spam filtering). Once I disabled those options (as I only use web-based clients), it stopped showing that message.
  • Close IE and OE, click Start - Run and type in the following exactly as it appears and click OK:

    "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

Then check the settings I mentioned in my first reply.

Do you include the " " or not? sorry to ask

    Yes, exactly as above!
  • Chippy it doesn't DO anything? is that right? cos it's still the same error coming up

  • Yes, it won't appear to have done anything, but that command fixes some registry entries used by OE.

Reboot your PC and see if the error has gone away and check the options settings again.
  • No still there this is realy anoying me now!
