  • The Rainforest Cafe - Shaftsbury Avenue - is BRILL!!

I have been around 3 -4 times its one of the largest non-smoking cafes in London.

Great for children, its like sitting in the jungle!!

    Monkeys noises, elephants, bears

Even a fake thunderstorm!! I would highly recommend it as a great lunch place.

P.S. make sure you order the Key Wester Smoothie ......... mmmmmmm ..... Delicious!!
  • Consider getting an oyster card, its cheaper for travel on the tube and you can get discounts on many london attractions

  • If you've never been to London before, go on one of the one top round london tour buses, it's a great way of seeing 'everything' and getting a rought idea of how the place is laid out.

I just checked oyster, it is not useful if you have kids, now when I take a 7 days travel card which i intend to take, I can get both my kids at 1 pound per day, in oyster, it will be more. Anyhow, just to take care of some attraction, I intented to take one oyster card and use my travel card to top it up, will somebody guide me from Heathrow airport to reach dockland, I need to take two separate ticket one 7 day ticket for two zone, and one single up to 2nd zone to save cost. No point in taking 1-6 zone ticket. Unfortunetely i am reaching at 7 am so need to take a peak hr ticket.

Thanks for all of you for nice tips.

I still dont see any body advicing how to Use London pass effectively. I will stay at Docklands and intent to take a 3 day London pass. I guess there is no pass for the family. I have to take 2 adult and 2 child pass. Please advice

I found the same thing with Oyster when I was there recently, with the children I was better of with a travelcard, but i did ask to get an oyster card for the discounts and was told at the underground that anywhere that gives discount with Oyster will also give discount with the travelcard. i found this true everywhere except London Eye.
They insisted on Oyster (which i hadn't bothered with), if I'd had it, (and had used it that day) the deal was London Eye and river cruise, and kids go free, that would have been £22 for me and 2 children, as oppose to the £26 it was for us just to go on the eye, the CS manager came out and said TFL had it wrong and I wasn't the first to mention it to them.
I think Madam Tussauds would have been the same, but it was closed on the only afternoon we could go.

Great place to eat is the crypt at St Martin in the Fields Trafalgar Square.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Regarding the London Pass - DON'T BOTHER. Most of the offerings are distinctly 2nd rate with a few exceptions. Just have a look at the top 10 on https://www.visitlondon.com & also check out https://www.timeout.com

Madame Tussards & London Dungeon are not worth the money though the London Eye most definitely is.
  • Did you get your Edinburgh City pass ? Great for public transport and loads of reduced admissions to attractions. Camera Obscura is great for the kids.

Or better still (at least from a money saving perspective) get on one of the heritage routemaster buses

Route 9 runs from Royal Albert Hall to Aldwych via Knightsbridge, Trafalger Square, Picadilly Circus

Route 15 runs from Trafalger Square to Tower Hill - you could then get off at St Pauls (have a wonder round, and climb up to the top of the domb - not free but not expensive), then wander over the wobbly bridge (that doesnt wobble anymore) to Tate Modern (cup of coffee in swish surroudings of restaurant/look at the collection of art for free) then take the Tate Boat (£4.30 for adults/ £2.85 with a travel card) down to Tate Britain (Vauxhall/South Kensington area). Tate Britain has a fantastic collection of Turner paintings (again all free), as well as a collection of British Modern Art (and not so modern) - all for free.
