What type of paint to use on terocotta?

Hello
Can anyone help and tell me what type of paint I should be using when painting on terocatta pots.
I tried using white acrylic but the finish is streaky (paint brush stroke marks). I then brought white gloss spray paint for use on ceramic - but the finish is not good either.
Also tried gloss white plasti-kote but no good ;(
Any ideas would be welcomed.

Emulsion should be ok, then you can seal it if you want.0
