We went abroad in 2001 with my sister and her family but we can only ever afford a couple of Sun holidays a year at Haven.
Neither me or my children are interested in the beach or sun tans, so holidaying in England in April and October is perfect for us~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don't ever stop believing........
Never get tired of watching you, someday you will break through.....0 -
every couple of years we go abroad, (Greece, Spain etc.) Thought we would try Cornwall (Newquay) this year, but as we can only go in school hols, struggled to get anything for under £900 for a week (not incl food etc), so ,Tenerife it is.... two weeks in August 4*, Half board, guaranteed sun for £1700 works out cheaper than Newquay per week!DIPPYDORA

Try Camping :j You could borrow stuff from friends or get sh on ebay. If you really don't enjoy it you can put the kit back on ebay when you've done;)0 -
Holidaying in Scotland again this year - two weeks in May (usually go in September). Neither of us drives, so we're at the mercy of National Express and other bus companies - which doesn't bother us at all
. My holiday begins the minute I close the front door behind me

The most 'abroad' I have been recently is Ireland, as I have decided not to travel by air. My OH lives in the North East, and I am in London, so we have some nice holidays together in Scotland and Ireland.
Some of my most memorable holidays have been:
Volunteer warden with the RSPB at the Osprey Centre in Scotland, and at Fairburn Ings in Yorkshire. Accommodation, good company, beautiful scenery, and a purposeful way to spend my time.
I have also been to France with BTCV, (ferry and minvan) which had everything above, plus food and extra activities thrown in.
It can be quite difficult going on holiday alone, specially if you are a bit shy, so the above really suited me, and made a welcome change from working in an office for the local council.0 -
I think we will take a UK break this year purely as we were spoilt last year and went abroad 3 times. That was highly unusual but for various reasons just happened!
Also we have so much DIY to do on the house and garden still that our time needs to be spent doing that.0 -
The UK is a great destination for holidays - take Devon, Cornwall, the Scottish Highlands and Islands or the Lake District. These locations used to be top holiday spots back in the 1950s and 60s. But the big problem is that it's damn expensive nowadays, so abroad is often cheaper. I hate really hot weather and always avoid July and August for holidays, but if go off-peak in May or September you can find some very good deals, even in Italy or France.0

We always holiday in the UK, we can't afford anything else, not now, or before the crash.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
For me its actually cheaper to go abroad.
UK campsites In august are around £25 for a basic site to a whopping £60 for one with a pool. Tesco clubcard have paid for my ferry, then i've booked a site in Holland, with an indoor pool, entertainment for £20 a night... bargain...0 -
Had very memorable holiday on a Polish "ecological" farm 2 years ago. Riding every day, they killed a goat for us to cook and eat, and everything was so cheap it was difficult to spend our carefully hoarded Zloties. Or do they have Euros now?0
