or you could just delete ntldr from c: root and some important .DLL's from the system32 folder. This way they have the nice task of reinstalling windows (doh) and they can't prove that you borked XP.

I did a low level format of the disk and then re-ibstaled the OS when that happened to me.

Losing your job can be a great thing once you get over it !

    Best of Luck !

Sorry to bring this back up after all this time, but handing back the laptop in the morning.

How do you do a low level format? I have a xp pro cd, but its not bootable. Funny how you forget things, I used to be IT support till 5 years ago!

A collegue at work, another manager, who attended the various meetings with me, has said to hand the laptop back "formatted if you prefer" So I think I will.

    Thanks for your help.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Sorry but this made me laugh ... a network security consultant that doesn't know how to secure data or remove data from a laptop ... that learning curve is likely to be very steep :D:D

Congratulations and good luck in your job

Ahh but Im not a network consultant at the moment, I was project manager in the network security arena. Securing and removing data is easy, doing it the best way involves asking people that know, and for that I asked for help. :T

Suggs im not having a go at you but dont you just love those that can only do 1 job in a certain field.
The network administrator creates and removes accounts and ensures that backups run.
the hardware engineer will replace your hard drive you need the software engineer to reinstate the hard drive.
A great way to keep 3 people employed. if you want to really progress in IT make sure you know about everything, read everything you can find, they will get shut of the others sooner or later if you can do their jobs aswell saving the company 2 wages they may even give you some of what they save (ok maybe not) but you will be indespensible as gettig someone else in to do all 3 jobs could be tough
