The amounts concerned are so small that if I'm putting a few £s into the wrong tax year I don't think it will be a huge problem, if they ever ask to see my accounts. Usually they just need the totals for the tax return, though I realise they could audit me.
I'm not saying that you are wrong Timmne, far from it, I'm not an accountant. I just mean that for the amount of money most mystery shoppers are talking about the tax office aren't going to be checking the fine details of how we record our income and expenses.
Absolutely, I can see where you're coming from and would agree - the only point I would make is to (and this applies to every contact anyone has with HMRC) always get written confirmation of conversations with HMRC, or ask them to point you towards the relevant guidance notice. It'd be annoying to have to try and explain a telephone conversation to a know-it-all investigator in six years' time!0 -
Thanks Bumblebee and Timmne0

and what do you mean you "didn't spot" it!
What happened to the email alert, text message alert, electric shock alert, plane flying overhead alert, smoke signal alert, airhorn alert, eh, eh EH?0 -

Yes.
I have just returned from a first class return flight to New York.
I had to evaluate the lounge and arrive 3-4 hours before take off.
Questionaire is a long one but mostly radio buttons or check boxes.
Each questionnaire takes about 2 hours to complete.
Read my post I linked to in my earlier reply.0 -
I have a question which is, I am already in full time employment, so by accepting to work some of these as part time do I need to fill in a tax form? Am I able to sign up to several companies as I only have seen a couple of offers but all are airside airport ones, lastly would I have to contribute to NI for this as I earn in my full time job more than the amount needed to contribute.0
