Rail Delay compensation

After several delays in several rail journeys this week we are wondering if there is any way to successfully claim money as compensation for disruption. Does anyone have any ideas? ???

According to the Virgin Trains site
Compensation policies and levels compensation differ by Train Company.
If you feel that you are entitled to compensation for disruption to a train journey or would like to comment on the service you received we advise you to contact the train company direct.
Contact details for all train companies are available at https://www.nationalrail.co.uk
Just keep hold of all the tickets from your journeys and also which trains you were on so they can reference them if need be0 -
You can normally collect a form from the station to send it off with your tickets. I've done it several times and received a travel voucher as compensation.0

On FGW you can only get compensation if you renew your season ticket and then only if they fail their own service levels for punctuality and reliability across their entire network - pretty unlikely.
Other rail operators (e.g. CrossCountry) have adopted a better system that compensates the season ticket holder for each journey where there is a delay. If the delay is over 30 minutes then you will get compensation albeit at the daily rate for your ticket which of course includes weekends when most people don't travel.
FGW are giving up their franchise in 2012 - so they may be forced to adopt the improved terms and conditions then.0 -

Why should they, more compensation payouts means less profits unfortunately. So there's no benefits for the new franchise holder to change the terms and conditions.
If you want to do something about this then get writing to Passenger Focus, Office of the rail regulator, your MP and finally the current Secretary of State for Transport ie; Philip Hammond.
