Building Society as Current Account

Which building societies offer services such as direct debits, standing orders, etc., and which would you recommend.
I'm sorely tempted to switch from Lloyds to a building society - if feasible!
Advice appreciated.

The Nationwide Flexaccount has maximum flexibility - all banking services and access online, by phone, ATM and large branch network. Shame it no longer pays any interest.

There's a whole forum devoted to current accounts - take a look there!
I just moved from N/Wide to Halifax. N/Wide have stopped paying interest and are reducing the cheap overseas card benefits, + have rubbish savings rates. Oh, and their launch date for Faster Payments has slipped 5 times and is still way off in the goodness-knows-when!
Halifax pay a flat £5 pm (see conditions). And by having 3 accounts and moving £ around a bit you can get £15 pm. That's £180 free money a year.0 -

It's many a year since Halifax was a building society, as per the OP's stated requirement.
Very true - sorry. Just got carried away by my disapointment with N/Wide!0
