A freind of mine directed me to the site a while ago but never bothered ( I saw Martin on tv over Xmas too) but thought, ah, well Im OK things arnt that bad.
Then I came over here a couple of weeks ago to find out a bit about buying & selling houses, and had a pretty bright lightbulb moment. So Ive shuffled my CCs around, frozen food I would have usually binned, taken my dvd collection down to 2 instead of 3, bought very little except essentials.
I am a bit worried im getting too obsessed I was out the other night with my OH on one of our rare nights out and I literally balked at the price of a vodka & lemonade at a fiver a throw, and little tight me only had the two I couldnt stand to throw the money away thinking " I could have put this money on my credit card balance" . I wonder whether im getting a bit too meany being on here all the time - but I am a debt free wannabee after all!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Having discovered this site only 10 days ago, I am totally hooked! I keep MSE open all day and dip in and out of various threads and forums! I've told colleagues to have a look at it and bored my OH to tears going on about MSE! It's a realy feeling of togetherness to help us all through difficult stages and also share great ideas!
It's really helped me to focus my mind because I am in financial schtuk at the moment and already I've transferred some CC and SC balances, as well as treating myself to free perfume samples, as recommended on this very site! :TOfficial DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

utterly hooked. Hope that work don't keep a record of how often i'm on the site at work! (quite a bit, better not say more than that!!!)
always start off with Freebies, the Discount Vouchers, then Old Style, then Debt Free Wannabe, then maybe Grabbit, then another quick look at Freebies, just incase!
I've bought and regularly use a Slow Cooker, I'm reducing (albeit slowly) my monthly shopping and now am just about trained to shop once a week - online with Tesco using a 1000 point voucher whenever I can (most weeks!)!! I've just received my Clubcard Plus card from Tesco so can now get double points when I shop and should have enough this quarter for my MFI furniture (I arrived here through the beef in gravy situation and still have a load in the freezer!!)
I've reduced the rate on a loan and reduced the number of months at the same time - 240 months to 120 months at only an extra 20 a month! And all I did was ask for a possible small overpayment each month and they said ok, and we'll chop 3% off the rate - I was chuffed!
I've cleared up my credit reports as much as possible for now and, although I have debt, am behind with nothing.
Can't do anything about the mortgage for another year, but then I'll be looking round for a much better deal thanks to advice here.
I love the sound of the post arriving - freebies, freebies, freebies!!!!!
The only thing that has suffered is my waistline - all those lovely OS puddings I've discovered on the recipe index!!!!

there was an article in the Sun yesterday titled "why being a tightwad can save your life"page 45 basicaly saying people who pursue riches are more likely to suffer mental problems such as paranoia attention deficit disorder and addictionsand went on to list why saving money on certain things was healthier such as stop smoking, cutting alcohol down, cutting down on the ready meals you eat by eating more home made stuff(good one for ms oldstyle)its a shame it didnt mention mse.0

Obsessed? Totally! I'm sitting here in my dressing gown because I wanted to change my £2 club signature!!
I've got through my debt but I feel like I'm a recovering debtor and need this site for regular support.0 -
Again I've just read about something I was unaware of - keren29 (or anyone else in the know) what is a Tesco clubcard plus - and how do I get one - can't believe I might be missing out on double points!!
xxDebt at Highest: £11,630.10 (May 2006) Debt now: £0.00 !!!!Married to the man of my dreams :A - Sat 2nd June 20070 -
I'm totally obsessed. I have this site open most of the day at work, dipping in and out. On Saturdays I'm regularly on the laptop before I've even got out of bed (!) posting on the Old Style daily thread. Friends and family are always emailing me to ask advice about bank accounts etc.
I'm not in debt but am frequently on the DFW board because it's always great to share ideas about cutting costs. I am absolutely OBSESSED with my savings. I currently have £6,277 in my ISA which should have gone up to about £12,500 including interest by the end of this year if I just meet the target I'm aiming for - but TBH I'm hoping to beat that hands down
I'm aiming to get up to £15-20k in savings for deposit and costs on my first flat.
I've also become much more assertive about anything that will save me money! For example, I'm an online opera critic (unpaid, in my spare time) and used to pay for all my tickets myself (cheap seats every time, of course) because I was too shy to phone up the press offices and ask for freebies. Now I'm making all the phone calls and getting waaaay more freebies than I used to
- in fact, I beat last year's savings target by £2k and almost half of that was due to underspend on my entertainment budget!
I suspect I've become a bit boring to some people, but hey, I'm financially healthy - are they?
