.......Money Saving?!?!?!?!?!
I'm bored at work (again!) so I thought i'd start a thread and ask how obsessed you are with money saving?
C'mon, don't be shy! How has your behaviour changed since you joined MSE or since having your 'lightbulb moment'?
Do you drive significant others and/or familes crazy gabbing on about moneysaving or spending hours on the PC recording EVERY penny you have spent!?
I can say I flick between most boards on here for most of the day even tho i'm meant to be working and I try to give the best advice I can.
So what are you lot like?

Every time I mention MSE my husband rolls his eyes and calls me a saddo.
He's only joking as he's seen a complete turnaround in my attitute towards money since I started on here.
I love posting and reading about other's progress, it totally fires me up again when I have a weak moment and want to spend money. THIS stops me because I literally feel like I'd be letting everyone else on here down by lapsing. (does that sound silly?)
Martin needs to be knighted! That man has done more for the public's financial health than anyone
ALL HAIL MARTIN :money:
ALL HAIL MARTIN :money:It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
I supose my lightbulb moment was in October 05. Unfortunately it wasnt a full on 2000 watt stadium floodlight, more of a flickering 40watt bulb. But it was on none the less.
I found this site at the same time. Became more aware of our money situation and also how close we may be to getting ourselves into trouble.
I am glad to say my lightbulb is now a 60watt shining direct into my eyes lol.
Anyway in answer to the post, Now since I have listed everything and devised a plan of clearing debt rather than paying to keep it and increase it I am started to become obsessed. Always listing and making plans. I must be driving my wife mad. (must admit to being worried that she is not fully on baord with this but thats another story)
I cant stop talking about my plans and admit to becoming a little excited by it
Got a spreadsheet up and running on PC. Just started a household budget (food petrol etc) Always getting new ideas and trying to convince her of them.
Starting looking at prices when we shop, only buy what we need, meal planning, etc etc etc.
As a newbie as already mentioned I am finding it quite exciting and reckon I am a few steps away from being able to really make a difference to our finances, and as a result becoming more obsessed.
What if the hokey cokey is really whats its all about?0 -
I think by looking at this (and the Bank account forum) that more and more people are getting obsessed and taking on the banks to get their charges back!In debt no more!0

I am obsessed with:
saving money, how much I'm spending, can I get it cheaper elsewhere?, can I make any more money?, getting freebies, getting bargains!!Mortgage-free wannabe!0 -
Yep. I'm obsessed! Am always telling poeple where they can get things cheaper, how to snowball their debts, etc!!
People always say to me: "You're so good with money, I don't know how you do it," which leads on to a massive lecture about the joys of MSE!!! DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

TBH i find MSE a pain in the posterior!!! :rotfl:
this is due to the amount of time i sit in front of this comp and read/reply to posts!!!( i will have to get a cushion!!)
I would be totally lost without MSE i wouldn't do it i know i wouldn't do it.
The challanges are great because i've said i'll do it i stick to it,the 2.oo savers club i won't touch the money cos greenfingers (bless him!!) spends ages totting it all up.you really feel that you don't want to let everyone down.
My daughter rings from uni and only has to mention the word money and i start, her response is"omg here she goes again what little tip do you have for me today mum"!!!lol :rotfl:
Anyway excuse my waffling i know what i mean!!! :rotfl:0 -
Yep, me too.
I'm pretty much obsessed but think that its a healthy obsession.
I know theres a balance to be found here somewhere but have not quite got there yet. It does feel nice to know that I'm not wasting money anymore.
I check my spend/budget spreadsheet everyday and get excited at payday, not because I get more money, but because I can knock down the total debt a bit more!!0 -
Yep, another obsessed MSEr here!!
My friends and family are getting sick of hearing about MSE, always laughing at me until I told them what a difference its made to my finances! My parents are always saying "Kath, its that friend of yours on the telly, that Martin you keep talking about!" Just because I showed them a thread where he replied (sort of!) to a post of mine and I was so excited, they think I'm totally mad now :rotfl:
Seriously though, it has made such a difference to every part of my life. I have cut back on unnecessary spending and gone from in debt to debt-free (except student loan admittedly) with savings. Cheers to Martin!!!
I also think its fab that we have so many newbies joining all the time, through seeing or hearing Martin on the telly and radio. So many are spurred on to change their situation by reading and posting here, its value should not be underestimated.
Right now I should be doing work, getting an assignment bound, having lunch and going swimming. But none of them are getting done :rotfl: , wonder why!!Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now...
