Could you please expand on how her credit records will be linked? Also she has no intention of appliying for any credit in future so how would it link?? Sorry to be a pain, I am not very good in all these financial matters and don't know how it all works.
Does she also intend to not be registered to vote, have any bank accounts, any savings, any pensions - basically cease existing? Because if she doesn't then chances are they WILL find her and because she's "run" from the debt her record will be marked as basically not only having defaulted but purposely hiding from the debt (there is a term for it which I can't remember...) and more likely than not then the bank will take out a CCJ against her. When they then find her she will have more than likely defaulted the CCJ and then she'll have to deal with bailiffs...
And even IF she never applied for credit again - if the debt is sold to a DCA they will snoop like mad and potentially start calling her parents, you and anyone they THINK might be linked to her... And that could include her place of work too...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Believe me, they are much more likely to chase her for debts she does not even own than to fail to chase her for debts she does own.
She has to give every address where she has lived. This is checked. if it does not tally with the exisitng credit records, then the CIFAS check comes back suspect.
We had a guy on here who applied for a service at his new house, could not move in for a few weeks and applied for credit to be delivered to his old house and he has a CIFAS warning that removes all chances of getting credit and his business was about to collapse. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
What if she applies for a new bank account with her new name now (when she is still paying the loan off) . She told me that Barclays does not ask you for your maiden name. And regarding past addresses-she was a student 3 years ago and had loads of addresses since 2001 to 2006 (living in the house of 5) where there has been millions of students since she's gone. So how will they be able to tell if it is the same person??
And just to add that when the creditor takes legal action, as long as the letter goes to her old address, the court case will go ahead and then she will have CCJs against her name. She will not be able to fight the case, the judgement will go forthwith and when she fails to pay the bailiffs will be sent to the old house. Good chance at that stage that someone will tell the bailiff how to start looking for her.
And either her hubbie lies and gets single person's CT discount, or he discloses her name on the CT records. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
True to some extent, but i knew a roomate back in uni, who got a loan for 10 grand. After 2 years she and bf ( british citizen) decided to get married... Anyway just before she got her British citizenship she told the bank she couldnt pay and was going back Kenya ( bank didnt know she was wed etc). When she did get her citizenship she changed her surname and never told anyone about her maiden name etc etc. Basically she was a fresh person! Its been 7 years now, so i think she got away with it!!!Believe me, they are much more likely to chase her for debts she does not even own than to fail to chase her for debts she does own.

wish i could go to kenya and do the same:)0 -
I think that is only fair that you explain the situation and offer the payment. I'm sure they would rather accept this payment than nothing at all, although I'm not sure how it works with DCA's etc, they may pass it on.
I have worked out that maybe i could pay 40 pounds a month to LLoyds. Right now i pay nearly 220. Does anyone know if they will accpet this? If they dont then i guess i will have no choice and just leave with no forwarding address etc . Any advice much appreciated.
Seems a little unfair to skip the country without paying...after all you chose to take out the loan. Perhaps you should have properly considered the possibility you may not always be able to afford the repayment? 0 -

If she open online account with one of the high street banks and say she just moved to UK.They will give her something like electron,If used perfectly,it will be upgraded in no time.People get away with these things easily. You can't keep a good man down...0

Hi Barlos
Could you please expand on your friends situation.
Did she actually go to Kenya or stayed in UK?? How did she get new bank account? Did she try to apply for any credit in her new name and did she just left the maiden name blank in most of the application forms???
If she got British Citizenship she must have British Passport, when overseas people apply for British passport they have to provide IPS (Identity and Passport Services) with their old passport and other documents regarding their identification. As IPS hold information about her old name and identity and also new, there must be a way for banks etc how to trace that. Can IPS disclose personal info to bank, debt collectors, bailiffs, J2 Solutions, etc???
Please advise.
Thanks0 -

I cant really remember and dont really know the exact situation. Interesting question about the IPS. Wouldnt think they would share your personal info with 'commercial' businesses such as banks etc. however not to sure. maybe someone else here knows.......0 -
