Help please with AOL

Hi
I had a free account with aol which i cancelled 15 days into the free trial. I had a number they gave me but lost it in amongst the boxes of stuff i was unpacking still... They billed me for december and january, and when i called them they had no record of my cancellation. I wrote to them demanding my money back but all i got back was a standard letter cancelling my account.
I phoned them and they said they would only refund one months money as i did not have the cancellation number. This surely cannot be right just because they happen not to have anything on their system, can i ring them and say anything to them about this, is it oftel that i can report them to
