how is it proof they did the damage?! if u open a public door and the anfle comes off in your hand does that mean u broke it?! No it means it was faulty.
personally it sounds to me like your letterbox was faulty. 'stuffing' a package through a letter box would push it in rather than out. if he lifted it and it came off in his hand, your flap was faulty. very simple. I do not understand how u could state otherwise.0 -

Would it? Surely you would lift the flap and then 'stuff'. The flaps always going to be on the outside.0 -
Postman broke my letterbox, admits it and Royal Mail still wont pay up
I'm a bit confused about the title of your thread.
When did the postman 'admit' he broke the letterbox.
In your letter to RM, you say you came home and found the flap lying on the path, so I assume (maybe wrongly) that the postman had gone by the time you returned home.0 -
Needless to say I am not happy with this reply.
Your letterbox fell to bits, it's not the postman's fault, it just wore out.
I don't think you're in line for any compo.

Per the RM email the postman was interviewed and said "he lifted the letterbox flap and it came off in his hand".
Because of how the flap is connected to the letterbox, if the connecting pins were already broken the flap would not have stayed attached it would have just fell off.
I don't see this as an admission by the postman that he actually caused the damage.0 -
Agree with Pollycat. The postman has admitted that the flap came off in his hand, not that he broke it.0

I'm a postie as many of you know, and we have this problem with letter boxes constantly. Either the pins have came loose or corroded. The stuffing a packet through the letter box should not interfere with these pins as they are on the outside of the letterbox and not on the inside Or they are in 99% of the houses I've delivered to.
However, us posties to have a habit of stuffing things through that really are too big to go, especially if the packet feels unbreakable, I still don't see how the postie admitted to breaking it though. If you don't want the postman to do his job and lift your letterbox you can always arrange a collection from the delivery office.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -

How much would a new letter box flap cost anyway? Surely it is not even worth the hassle!0
