I fancied a festive wedding, but knew New Yr Eve would be mega expensive, we wanted a date that would suit teachers (as we have a few close friends that are teachers) and wanted a date that was not a weekend to save us some money becasue of the 20% discount. Monday 28 Dec this year was abank holiday so we thought - right go for that!

It means less time for my mum/sister to fuss over things and for them to drive me mad!

We will have been together 12 years exactly on 27th May, which is why we ended up with a Wednesday for our wedding.

A mortgage and 3 kids meant we couldn't afford to do it sooner, but it will have been worth the wait.

Originally we were going abroad but i really wanted my grandparents there and wasnt sure that they would be able to handle a flight so in January this year i found a website that did last minute deals, so i booked my wedding then and there, extremely good deal in a big country mansion. I had 5 weeks to plan everything.
I wanted a spring wedding and the day was lovely, also i didnt want to get married on a date that already ment something to us i wanted another special date

OH and I are both massive rugby fans so we chose our date so that it would be outside the rugby season! We also both play in a brass band so it had to be a time when it wouldn't be likely to be a competition day! Also had to be a Saturday - more expensive but we'll be getting married back at my family's chapel in Wales so OH's family and our friends here will need to travel 200+ miles so a weekday wouldn't really be feasible as they'd have to take an extra day off work for travelling etc. School holidays would have been better as OH mum is a teacher, but we thought we had to draw the line somewhere!

So we went for 19th June 2010 - and after all those considerations what we didn't realise was that the football World Cup starts the previous weekend. Doh.

  • oh yes i also made sure the wedding wasnt on a day any of our football teams were playing, not just because we would miss it but all the guests would have their mind on whether their team was winning etc, both families are football mad
  • call me crazy but me and Mr.M wanted to get married on friday the 13th.. nothing to do with the movie but its the original date he asked me last year and 13 has always been a lucky number for me somehow dont ask lol.. we cant do it this year cos that date has passed but we hope when Mr.M comes back from canada we'll be married on the 13th.. dont know which month but the man needs to find cheaper flights to come home for the final time. :)

  • my OH is a teacher, and as he started his summer hols (lucky I know!) I said I don't want to wait, lets do it before school starts....so HE had 6 weeks to plan it with lots of my lists!!
We chose a friday (bargain!) and still available at short notice - and it was the bank hol weekend in august so guests could travel to our middle-of-nowhere welsh location for a long weekend!!
