I've had enough of Norton

Bought a lovely new PC a year ago and got Norton 360 to run on it and two laptops at home. Norton's just expired but I'm not exactly over the moon with it. Is there a better cheaper (or free) alternative that will give me the same if not better protection?

(Don't tell me off for buying it in the first place... It was on offer in the shop and I was talked into it...)

Avast and Avira are both good, although for like for like replacement Comodo internet security is probably as near as your`ll get for no cost. Don`t know about it`s detection rates though.

If you decide to go for a "paid" one, I would recommend looking at Kaspersky.

Make sure you use the REMOVAL TOOL that Badoosh posted else you could hit all sorts of problems

    Then

Kaspersky ~ if you want to pay
    Avira ~ for free

Id also suggest MALWAREBYTES and SUPERANTISPYWARE as 'backup' scanners

If you have Barclays online banking then Kaspersky is free for a year-just log in and follow the link.
If you don't, it's worth paying for it anyway.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • top stuff, thanks guys.

It doesnt matter that Avira has no email scanner as any files that are opened are scanned anyways (And it has a much better detection system than Avast or AVG so more likely to catch a dodgy email than either of them)

Why? Like I say its been fine for me (maybe im to  ) lol.

The sheer number of people on this forum that have had problems for a start (Mostly letting infections through, but also update problems, slowing computers down etc)

I myself used it for a while to try it out but '3' times it failed to update (Until I ran a fresh install) and I eventually gave up

AVG seems to have very poor detection rates compared to Avira AntiVir in every test I've seen.
