Getting gas in a house with no gas

Options
So we are currently considering buying a house but have just found it does not currently have a gas supply but that there is gas in the street. Now looking on the national grid website I can see that I am able to apply for a quote from several UIP's to do the neccesary work to get a gas supply, however at the moment I am more interested in a ball park figure as to how much this is likely to cost assuming their is a gas main in the street. Does anybody have experience in this area that then share with me?

Thanks

Brett

    Welcome to the forum.

If you look through this forum(do a search) you will find many posts from people giving the quotes they have received.

These quotes range from a few £hundreds to several £thousands.

Some have reported that they got a quote for £thousands and another company quoted £hundreds.

There really doesn't seem to be much of a pattern to the way the charge is calculated, but obviously the distance to the mains and the difficulty of digging the trench is a big factor.
  • Do you have a garden?
..and will gas have to cross garden?
Is it more than 20m from supply?
Will it ned to cross third party land?

The easiest type of job is a terraced house / internal entry / gas in footpath outside of front door - cost approx £350 - £500

The other factors above will increase costs - you will be expected to excavate on your land. You will need to organise registration of meter and meter fit.
