I have had this problem lots of times, whenever I have tried to sell anything like a mobile phone, digital camera, etc.
A couple of safeguards you can use. Make the auction paypal only - the scammers rarely have a paypal account. Also make the auction so that you only ship to the UK, then in the selling options check the box "only allow bidders from countries I ship to", also if it is a BIN auction, make sure you check "immediate paypal payment" - if they do not pay immediately the auction will still run.
You will still need to be aware of scammers but should prevent your auction getting wrecked straight off.0
