HELP PLEASE! How Can I Stop My Cat From Ripping Wallpaper?

Its the bathroom wallpaper...........

He's clawed it in several places............made a real mess!

I'm in a rented house......

But,thankfully i should be able fix it with some matching paper, left in the cellar....

Is there any way to stop him, though?

im have 2 options for you

    1) mittens this will save your wallpaper but may not save your arms whhen your trying to put them on

    2) get a scratching post he wants something to test its strength and prowess on
Replies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you

i have a scratching mat...........but good idea about the scratching post!

maybe if i left that in the bathroom , he'd leave the wallpaper in there alone?

Close the door to the bathroom??

Get a water pistol, and when you catch him doing something, tell him off and squirt him, he will soon get the idea. Mine did took about 2 weeks in total and never had a problem since.

    Good luck

Don't let the cat in the bathroom (unless that is where the litter tray is sited, in which case, move the litter tray somewhere else)

Get a scratching post - not all cats like to scratch parallel to the floor, some prefer to stretch to scratch; and other awkward so-n-so's can't make up their minds and like to do both :D I wouldn't site it in the bathroom, but somewhere else.

Not a fan of water pistols myself (each to their own), a firm "noooooo" does the trick with my own two. Either way you have to catch them in the act for either of those methods to be effective.

I've used this spray in the past with great success, I've never bought from that shop so not recommending the shop (although I'm sure it's fine) just the spray. You'd need to test it in an inconspicuous area, behind the door maybe, to check it doesn't stain.

The water pistol idea is a good one unless you have a cat like mine that loves water and almost begs to be squirted! I'd also be a bit worried that he would begin to associate going into the bathroom with getting squirted which wouldn't be a good thing if his litter tray is in there.

Instead of a normal scratching post, we have a massive 2 x 4 that is propped up against one of our walls that they like to stretch full length and scratch.

leave some orange peel on the bathroom floor near where the cat is scratching or even by the entrance to the bathroom to deter him.
    Very money saving :)

Orange peel completely doesn't work on ours, they will actually sit and rub their heads on it.
