Ford Ka - How much?
Options
I am after a little car and have looked on a few car sites and been to a few garages today as I was worried about buying privately but one has caught my eye the last couple of weeks but didn't bother with it as it was overpriced. On the other hand most garages are only offering a 3 month warranty anyway.
Anyway, I decided to see if it was still for sale and it was, it looks immaculate, engine sounds good (although I'm no expert!), no rust or marks on the bodywork, 1 lady owner from new etc.
It has 68,000 miles on it though, how many miles can you expect to get out of a Ka? It's an 03 registered 52 plate.
Any opinions or suggestions would be much appreciated as I'm worried sick about buying something that will conk out in 4 months! I won't be able to get another car for a long time.
Thanks

It was advertised for £2,100, she said she'll take £1,600.
What's the average miles a Ka will get to? Is 68,000 ok?If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
It may look immaculate but the KA is prone to serious rust along with a host of other problems that can be costly to repair.
If your not sure about what to look for take a friend who knows what their doing.0 -
Click the link below then the particular model of KA
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Version.aspx?model=247&plate=710 -
The rust problems on Kas are no worse than most other cars but do tend to be exaggerated by third parties. We've had 4 in this household and rust has just not been a problem.(2 did over 90K miles)
Another oft quoted problem is spark plugs sticking in the engine block - this is only a problem if you don't have the car serviced. The "old" Endura engine can be a bit tappet rattly, but this is easily fixed, but it is a very basic engine - can be fixed by anyone !
The only problem we did have (one 1 car) was with the wiring loom connector into the doors, the pins tend to corrode and you get problems with electric windows/central locking - if you have the base model this won't occur !
These cars are cheap to insure, cheap to run, easy to park and an absolute delight to drive.0 -
Thanks for all replies.
I know rust is a problem and I couldn't see any at all.
She's going to put it throught the MOT once whoever's decided to buy it so that it will have the full 12 months. If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
I have a Ford KA, 52 reg. I have had it for three years and never had any mechanical problems. It has done 75,000 miles and I expect it to keep going for a while yet. I think £2100 is an okay price - if you got it for £1600 you should get a bargain.0

Thanks for the replies.
I've put £50 deposit on it today, it's getting MOT'd tomorrow then I can have it (providing it doesn't need anything done), I thought if it comes back having needed allsorts then if I change my mind I can live with losing £50. But I think it should be ok, she can't tax it for me as she's not insured on it now as she already has her new car so I got it for £1,550.
Now I need to sort the insurance but can't tax it until the documents arrive can I?If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
