Warning - HSBC - Problem with direct debits

I've been expecting the first min payment on my new HSBC card to go out in the last couple of days - nothing has been taken, and now they've put a late payment charge on my account! Luckily, I have confirmation from them that the dd was set up, so I rang them - they've refunded the charge without quibbling, as they said they're having "system problems" and some dd's aren't going through at the moment! They're not going to take another payment now until the next dd date, when they'll take 2 months worth. They also checked that I don't want to use my card this month, as I guess it's now (or about to be) de-activated because of non-payment.

So, this is just a warning to anyone else with a HSBC cc - it might be worth checking if they've taken a payment this month, as if they haven't (a) they'll just take double next month, and (b) they might be stopping your card!
