HSBC Credit Cards - Their DD system has failed

in Credit cards
A warning for anyone who took out an HSBC 0% card in the last few months.
I received a phone call from HSBC yesterday asking why my account was in arrears as I had not paid last months minimum payment. When I pointed out to them that I had a DD for the minimum payment they admitted that their DD system had failed for anyone who set up a DD around December last year. I had monitored that the first payment was taken correctly, so had not been keeping an eye on the second payment.
They advised they they have cancelled the late payment fee and that it won't have any effect on the 0% rate, but I will have to wait for the next bill to be sure.
Others may want to check to ensure that their DDs have gone through OK.

This forum has put me off ever applying for an HSBC card due to time taken to process applications and poor credit limits. This is the cherry on the icing on the cake for me.0

Happened to me as well, they actually set up the wrong credit card details for the direct debit.
I phoned them up and got the late payment fee removed.
Do people still receive paper statements from them, i check the credit card online but dont receive paper statements anymore0 -
Make sure they also havent recorded this with the CRAs as a missed payment, normally it happens automatically. I had to get this cleared off my file just a few weeks ago from HBOS making a mess of my DD. They refunded the charge but 'forgot' to tell me it would show on my credit files as being 1 month in arrears. They have just amended my file, so just watch out
edit: The DD fiasco was about 8 months ago but just noticed it a couple a weeks ago when applying for the HSBC card funny enough! Wrote to them a few weeks ago, wasnt clear how Id wrote it.

I can't say I've had problems with my HSBC card, however I would never ever set up direct debits for my bills.
That's because I'm self-employed and I don't have a fixed payday, so it's better for me to keep my options flexible. I usually ring my bank (First Direct) and send payment just in time for it to get there by the deadline. For particularly high bills I use the old fashioned method, ie. go to the bank with a cheque and get the bill stamped with the date.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

The same experience here: Direct Debit setup between two banks for full payment of credit card bill !!!
My personal experience  with my and my wive's HSBC cards received in December:- Two DD mandates were filled in and sent back to HSBC
- Two DDs appeared on our joint Nationwide account
- My wife's min payment was seccessfully collected by DD in the midlle of Jan
- My min payment failed to be collected at the end of Jan.
- Next day I phoned CS and paid min payment by a debit card. They cancelled my DD and promised to send me a new DD mandate to sign.
- DD disappeared from the Nationwide account, but no new DD mandate arived during next two weeks.
- Despite min payment was made by a debit card, next statement arrived with double min payment (that included previous missed one). Luckily late payment fee was debited, but then credited back. I have not checked my credit files yet.
- 13 Feb I phoned CS again. They assured me that they can reinstate DD without new DD mandate.
- Next day I received a new DD mandate to fill in and to send back. Absolutely confused I visited my local branch in a hope of some help. Don't waste your time. They are absolutely helpless with regard to credit cards and advised me to phone CS again.
- Today, 19/02 I still don't see DD on my current account
- Tomorrow I am phoning to India again to make a payment by my debit card.
