Hotels in New York

We are researching a trip to see friends In Tampa, Florida, we would like to spend 4 nights in New York en route, any suggestions for a reasonable hotel fairly central but not too expensive...........

Any tips for a MS trip would be appreciated.

If you want en suite facilities double double check that u are booking a room with them, if you want a bath check that as well.

There is a 13.625% tax and US$2 charge per night, so work out the total cost before booking.

  • I stayed in the 'Milford Plaza'. 2 mins walk from Times Square so very central. Very reasonably priced, safe, secure and highly recommended.

I stayed in the pennsylvania hotel twice and it's an excellent location..right next to madison square gardens and macys and within walking distance of times square..round the corner from the emipre state building....Not the poshest of hotels....Looks nice when you walk into the lobby..the rooms are dated but hey it's a great location...It's not that bad...You can jump on the subway to the airport just over the road...

I also stayed here and thought it was located very central and a clean place to put your head down at night. Remember you wont spend much time in your hotel room, too much to do !

Do check out tripadvisor as someone mentioned and the New York Forum

  • Oh-Oh - I'm booked in the Hotel Pensylvania next Thursday for 6 nights - eekkk!!! Will get back to you with an honest review soon!!! I have previously stayed in the Amsterdam Court Hotel (West 50th Street - just by Times Square). My advice is to get a hotel as central as poss. As other reveiws have said - you will spend very little time in your hotel anyway. It really is just to sleep and shower.

Every one has a different opinion and at different times get treated differently.

Ive stayed in a hotel that has been slated up and down by people.

Some people will get one member of staff being a bit off with them and slag the hotel for ever more.
There is one fairly true thing though not allways but mostly, the more you pay the better you get.

My opinion having been there a few times is this your hotel is a crash pad you dont fly 3000 miles to stay in the room, its NYC your out and at it not sat in your room all day.

I'll look forward to your report when you get back, the position of the hotel interests me, but the mention of bedbugs in trip advisor rather put me off although I must admit I did not read a report with them mentioned!!!!!

As long as we have a clean bed, towels and our own bathroom, do not fancy tripping down the passages at 3am to have a pee..... we will be fine. Its a place to sleep......

We do have a fairly slim budget though, I would love to stay in an upmarket place but my pennies will not go that far.........the air fares will be paid for in part by airmiles saved from my Tesco vouchers. the rest of the trip will be funded from boot sales and e bay sales........it is going to take a while to save up.

By the way anyone know what the weather is like end of jan beginning of feb, I guess its quite cold?????!!!!!
