If I didnt take direct insurance claims I would be absolutely stuffed - I can never see what the problem is, apart from the cash-flow problems when you start taking them. I wont take a direct claim without the excess being paid up-front and am looking at ways of "waiving" the excess in my "preventive health scheme"

Move to my area you'd be loved! I understand they won't from say E&L, but when it's a good policy I dunno why not, I guess most Vet bills (As in surgery outgoings like wages) are monthly & probably most Insurers would pay by then? The Mutt has Pet Plans top £12k cover & the Cat has Axa's as she was over 10 & PP didn't have a for life policy for her due to age, but they're paid yearly so the Vet could easily verify my premiums are ok!

In the Dogs case we've already done a Pre-Authorisation form for her Op but I can't do it until I get a refund due to me, or 10th April, whichever is sooner, I have £200 towards it but it's quoted at £390.93, so we have to wait, yes Pet Plan agreed to pay £383 something of the costs!

I also wish they'd let me have some kind've account so I could maybe give them £50 a month so they save it not me & it can be used towards her treatments!

Unfortunately I didn't insure my dog and cat when they were little, and by the time I thought about it, they were getting on and the premium was quite high.

Although neither of them have every really been ill, so the insurance company would have gained more than me I guess.

Plus, we have always had the money when needed so it hasn't been an issue.

Now my income has taken a nose dive and I'm getting worried about it for the first time.

I can only cover one of them though so I'm really hoping my cat doesn't get very ill now...

I stuck the Cat with Axa, £107.59 for the year & the excess is £50 per condition per year I think but no %. She's on £7,000 for life cover & it seems a good policy as she turns 11 this Wednesday & PP would only cover her for 12 months & £3k I think. I might even go with them when Chaya the Dog gets to old age as PP have a % too. But she's only 5 so a while yet I hope!

I will take direct from E&L and if they pay within 2 mnths then I will take another one on the same policy, but if its longer (Like the last one (6mths!!)), then the policy holder pays. PetPlan is about 6 weeks and Tesco/Direct Line about the same. BEST is More Than (can be DAYS) I have had return-of-post payout from them!

You see, given the case you quote, why the heck wont the practice do a direct claim? How stupid does the practice have to be. You will get the work done,I am sure, but some might not, and then the practice gets £0. Stupid thinking...

I have a client who has loads of cats and he pays us £100 a month and we just keep it "on account". I have others who do this as well. I am in the enviable position of being able to take direct debits as well, and this is very useful. DD is not a cheap option for a practice but once you are over the set-up costs then you are OK. e.g. I do dental work and take a "deposit" and then the rest on monthly instalments by DD. Deposit is whatever I think I can get but is never less than £50.

Unfortunately, he only needs palliative care now as he is past the curable stage.

Plus this is the only condition he has had that has cost us money and I don't think they cover existing conditions anyway (or none of the ones I looked at a couple of years ago did). Does Axa cover existing conditions?

That is a fabulous 'service' and I know many who would love to have that open to them!

Yep I am desperate to get her sorted, but the Cats tooth could've been hurting her & the Dog isn't in pain & might not have Cancer so the Cat had to come first. The Dog won't be going any later than 10th April but like you say some might leave it or think it's 'only' a Spay & the tumours might be benign etc. I'll just be relieved when it's all done the wait is killing me!

No they don't, i'm sorry to hear that. If anything happened to Tess (Chaya too but Tess i've had years) i'd never get over it. Fair enough if she was old & passed away i'd be heartbroken, but to have to PTS or something if the Insurance couldn't be a direct claim, well I think i'd end up going with her I would'nt cope with that :!! I don't think any do the pre existing conditions.
