    Would just like to add,

When you speak to CHBS, or what there new name is (DHS?), then will offer you a hotel, but also you can request a hotel aslong as its within the price bracket.

So if you planned a stop midway to see parents etc, instead of staying at X hotel, you could request Y hotel if it was better for you.
  • Thanks all, so it looks as if we can claim then.

What is it that hubby needs to ask his admin clerk for specifically? His admin tend to be a bit cluless with things like this. Where on JPA does he claim? Is there a JSP ref? Am I right in thinking that he books through this central hotel phoneline, we pay upfront then get reimbursed through jpa? xx
  • 159miles can be done in the car in under 3 hours from door-door.

Though i can understand why you dont want to be in an empty house with your things arriving the next day.

You could always dispatch your partner first to live rough in the house overnight, then you spend overnight with friends, then travel the next day.

160mile in fuel for the car is about £22-25.

Unsure how much a family hotel room would be, though travelodge are having a sale, mainly for mid-week stuff.

The removals man said that they will need 8am - 2pm to pack up, then with driving by the time they arrive there will not be enough time left in the day for them to unpack the other day so will need to deliver the next morning.
I dont drive unfortunately so will need to go with hubby when he goes. We are dropping our son off an hour away with grandparents the day before we move and going back for him the day after. xx

Can you not use a families flat at the new unit. we are posted to marham from leeming and will be using the one at marham. It is a quater that they keep for things like this and is about £15 a night. Check on the station web page and see if they offer anyhting like this alternatively phone the hive at the new station.

Yeah they have the gutersloh houses here for that, think they are a new idea though, they only appeared last year. Would rather stay in a hotel if entitled to it, will look into this if not. xx

If you don't want next day delivery you don't have to have it.You tell them when you want it delivering. They are not doing you a favour. They are getting paid to do a job. I take it you are packing everything yourself because they can't do it in the time allocated. I get a full pack done; its a lot less hassle.

You are entitled to a hotel. I just booked mine through CHBS without getting permission off anybody. You claim off JPA when you reach your next duty station so if you are within your entitlement you will be paid. As stated you can have a hotel wherever you want. Just tell CHBS where when you phone and if you have got a hotel in mind ask and they will phone up for you.
  • We are packing things that are in the loft etc but they are packing everything else.

Unless they turn up with a big crew or you haven't got much stuff they won't pack and load in 6 hours. We only ever pack things that we don't want to get broken (crystal, partylite candle stuff etc.) and leave the rest to them. It takes a couple of hours just for them to do the kitchen.
