If you go and have a look at the Wedding Forum there's people getting married with all sort of different budgets from very small to the price of a small house

I'm very lucky that we've been 'allowed' to invite only who we want and with 30 people for the main bit and 80 people for the evening we're coming in with a budget of £6000.

A friend of our is spending a small fortune  as her father has insisted on inviting all his friends and extended family who she doesn't even know.

The best thing about weddings is that everybody does theirs completely differently!

    Busy thread today Dreaming :D

  • Thank you SMLSAVE, i will have a look, i saw a forum that a good way to save money with thankyou cards is to develop photo's from the wedding and write your personal message on the back and send them out, that way everyone has a pictre too :) Its cheap, and thoughtful! Everyone normally just throws away the thank you cards anyway.

The good news is that we've managed to keep shopping(mainly food) bills down this month and have managed to put away £350 each into our wedding fund. We have been doing this since january and now have over £2000 towards our wedding (not including engagement presents or help from family)

This month will also be the first month that the mortgage payments have increased from £960 to £1550 and i plan on overpyaing £500! I can't wait to see my balance to start going down. I will be using my savings to do this, but i know the £500 i can always get back if times get hard. We are well and truely on our way to being mortgage free now. If my estimates are correct we should be able to knock £35,000-£40,000 off our mortgage in two years when it comes to the end of our fixed rate 5%.

I said in an earlier thread i was worried about the government not having any control on inflation, the news out this week that CPI has increased uexpectedly is proving me right, but there is still a long way to go.

I will update my signature when the mortagage payment and overpayment is made.

I saw that idea with thank-you cards too Dreaming! We're going one step ahead and are going to print the pictures as postcards so that they're easy to send too.

That sounds wonderful...good luck with that!

Sorry for the tardy reply, I missed your question.

Numbers are capped at 85 due to the venue size ( a deliberate ploy to stop all the extras that parents wanted).

It will be the same 85 from Cradle to Grave/ Church to disco.

  • So today i have checked my mortgage account online and the balance is..

    £154519.39
This includes £500 overpayment for April which arrived today ontime. March was the last time £940 was paid off the mortgage, from now on its £1550 per month which will be taken directly from my bank account and i will continue to pay £500 a month into the account as overpayments.

It's been a wierd month, i own a 2 bedroom flat first floor, last year we got a new kitchen installed and the washing Machine was leaking and caused damage to my downstairs neighbour. I know i will have to pay to cover his excess soon of £400 but not sure when. More on this later as its a long story!

Ontop of the payment above, both Mrs Dreaming and myself managed to save £350 each into the wedding fund and both of our parents contributed to the fund too! We are now above target should anything big happen.

Grumpy_Git- I wish we had capped ours...unfortunately i'm slowly learning you can't please everyone all of the time so maybe we should had just had a small wedding and told everything thats the way its going to be...they would had got over it by now!

SmlSave - Thank you, i went to the wedding forum and this was a great help, this is what inspired me to have the thank you cards as photo's :T

A new month and a new piggy bank to save up! I have collected my interest for my online savings accounts alrady (paid out on March 31st) and this has already been put aside for next months overpayment. I got approx £300 interest :T :T :T should had been a lot more those darn 0.50% interest rates

bravo-009.gif well done on all that progress :T:T
  • Thank you for your support, earlier this month we also had our ISA interest added (new tax year) and we immediately topped up our ISA to the max. I need to search if its time to move it, we are currently earning a very low rate with Nationwide.

This week we have been living with Mrs Dreaming Alouds parents whilst we have our flat decorated. Once this is done we will be finished with all our work, i worked out that we have spent £15,000 over the last two years with a new central heating system, new kitchen and having every room with coving, painted and re tiled/carpeted the floors. I think this would be reflected in our house price though and we will have a nice new home from next week :T
The wedding saving is also going to plan, we have both met our targets for the last two months.

With the extra money from the interest in savings accounts and ISA's we are able to again make an overpayment of £500 when May comes along. This is the first month that £1500 will be debited rather than £960. I am looking forward to seeing our mortgage balance shrink rapidly! (i'm much more looking forward to moving back home though)

I look forward to posting my new balance on May 1st when £2,000 will be taken off the mortgage compared with £960 this time last year (before i started overpaying)

Well done, combining OP's with doing a place up is quite an achievement :T
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Good luck. Just take it one day at a time and stay your course.
I was shocked how much I was able to save just by living below my means.
  • Thank you, Its not been easy recently but having the interest payments from our savings over the last year have helped out a lot. Its these savings which we are now using to overpay the mortgage as we will not get great rates this term round. We get the keys back tomorrow for our place and i can't wait to enjoy it!
