    Good luck :)
Will be following your progress - we're saving for a wedding too but thinking it'll be a quiet relaxed (and cheap!!) affair...and hoping for cash gifts!! :)

  • Thank you for your kind wishes, it is challenging but i believe we can do it. to have a mortgage paid off by the time i'm 30 would be an incredible achievement. A long way to go though before that happens.

So today my 7 year old ford KA went in for its MOT, i put 450 aside for this as i thought it may need some new brakes but it came back clean and cost 217 pounds. The savings will go into the mortgage overpayment for April, hopefully we can make it 500.

I have decided against selling books and cd's on ebay for now, we have a bunch of stuff we need to get rid off so we will do a car boot sale in the next couple of months when the weather is a little nicer. Any money we raise from that will go to the honeymoon fund though and not the mortgage.

You mentioned that its important to enjoy ourselves, we are big tesco points savers and use these to convert into airmiles. This coming October we are flying to St Lucia in business class for 300 pounds each return! It was part of British Airways half price sale last year and the use of a companion voucher we obtained using the BA Amex card (very thankful to b&q for accepting this as payment for our new kitchen ;)

So right now, we are looking forward to pay day and seeing how much we can pay in.

On another note, today i received a letter from the council and our tax will increase by 2.4% which is below the average so i can't complain too much, lets just hope some of it is used to get the hoodies off the streets at night time...but i wont hold my breath

i saw a Martin Lewis special on weddings, the average wedding in the UK is 21,500 pounds!!! Ours is nearly this amount so i'm not so shocked anymore. We've had a lot of help from our parents for this special day (half of our budget) and the rest we are saving up for each month as most of the payments are needed the time. We are also hoping for cash gifts which will be used as either a deposit for a home or to start paying off the OH mortgage which currently stands at 150,000  But i wont get into that just yet, trying to cut mine first as thats on the higher rate

What do you get for £22k these days?

Well done on getting those great fares to St Lucia :T
  • exactly my feelings, you get a hall, food for 180 pepole (50 of who are parents friends and i don't really know too well or seen in years) a band, reception service, toast master, video guy, photographer, dresses, suits, presents, stag do, hen party...i really wanted to get married abroad with just close family (would had cost a lot less) but unfortunately grandparents are at an age now where they can't fly anymore, not because of the flights but because of the security at airports, standing around for over an hour, taking shoes off and clothes off..they just can't deal with that anymore.

Although getting married abroad may be cheaper for you, and theres no guarantee as my brother tells me! All your guests would need to get there, I know I'd rather have given my brother some money to stay in the UK, it was a nice wedding but could have been better.

Mine is looking like coming in at under 10k at the moment (fingers crossed!)

 oh my goodness, £20+ grand for a wedding!

My plan is to either go abroad, and have only like 10 people there, or go to Gretna Green :) We're both from small families and OH's family's so fragmented it would be tough to have a big wedding. Hoping to spend less than £3k :o
