  • Hello, You can only apply for Disturbance alowance on a move from SFA (Service Family Accommodation) too your next SFA. You will have to fund your first move into SFA and your last move out of SFA, when your partner leaves the Services.

    Sugared,

I believe your situation makes you intelligible, but you can check out for yourself http://rafcom.co.uk/pay_allowances/pdf/JSP752_Ver9.pdf (Paragraph 07.0101 onwards).

Always try to check things out for yourself, otherwise you will often get completely wrong advice!

Melissa, FYI, Disturbance Allowance is available for moves from and to SFA, SLA, Private Owned and Private Rented and under certain circumstances is paid on last move.

Im in the same position as yourself,

Married, living in own house, when posted plan to move into MQ and rent house out to cover mortgages.

Believe we are covered, but you will have to refer to the JSP 754 at the time. This thing can change, and will be the backbone of your claim.

Dont take hear-say or advice from people who think they know. Ensure you have read it yourself, then if the claim is reversed and the £1600~£1800 is attempted to be taken back, you know where you are and can point it out.

I believe that, married, own house with 2 kids is knocking on for £1800 ish for DA, when someone moving from SLA to SLA is £86.

    Good luck.
  • Yes - you can claim disturbance allowance. I am in an identical situation and have already had my submitted claim approved.

This is a copy of the JSP 752 from the rafcom website.

Obviously it is not up to date, and the JSP's on the intranet should be used for the souce of information.

    http://www.rafcom.co.uk/pay_allowances/pdf/JSP752_Ver9.pdf

Each case if different, and you need to ensure that you are eligible by reading the relevant JSP, and then any claims that you are not eligible you know what you are talking about.

I work in HR and, from the information given by the OP, feel that the answer is "no".

The basic principle for DA, quoted from the JSP, is "The aim of Disturbance Allowance (DA) is to contribute towards the necessary additional expenses that arise when the Services require their personnel to make a qualifying move from one place of residence to another." The important words being the ones I have put in bold.

The circumstances given indicate the OP will be moving during a posting at their own choice, not because the services are moving them. When they are next posted (sorry, assigned ;) ) and move, the person in p/stat 1s will be entitled to claim DA.

Have you been posted and are about to move to another establishment or are you in the middle of say a '3 year posting' and want to move into a MQ from your own home?
If its the latter, you almost certainly won't be entitled to move at public expense (inc DA). If its the first then you are entitled to to DA
