I switched to E.On last year from nPower, & reduced my payment from £84 a month for gas &electric combined to £70 a month also combined
(did it through quidco & got free energy monitor) & thought I'd got a good deal.
But I'm now not so sure - having seen what other people appear to be paying, my £70 a month seems high
We've recently switched to all low-energy lighbulbs & I'm obsessed with turning the idiot box off, not just to standy, charge both my own & work mobiles in the office (has to be done!!)
Its gas heating which isnt on for long as I prefer layers of clothing to a stuffy house
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks for reading

I do not make mistakes, I learn lessons.
I work to live, not live to work.
I love to live & live to love.
Good enough is exactly that.

How many kwh of gas and electricity are you using per day or week or month?0

Is £70 a month high? Its the 'how long is a piece of string' argument. Maybe in a 1 bedroom flat, not in a 8 bedroom detached house with indoor heated pool.
Im afraid you pay for your lifestyle, plus what you need to heat.0 -
Best thing to do IMO is to firstly get yourself on the cheapest possible tariff commensurate with your circumstances. To do this properly you really need to get hold of your annual usage figures and get on the switching sites. Using the DD you now pay on these sites will NOT bring up the most accurate results, believe me. Then, if you still think your bills are too high the 'solution' lies entirely with you and what you are prepared to do to bring them down...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
Hi Lurker 1972
Sounds like you are on the Energy Saver Dual Fuel tariff. This is the one where a free energy monitor is sent out.
This is a capped tariff which protects you from price increases until a set date. Initially, prices are higher than the standard tariff available at the time you signed up.
However, depending on when you joined us, you may not have been affected by last years price rises. Also, you will benefit from the price decrease on 31 March 2009.
Your monthly payments will depend on the type of property, appliances used and lifestyle. Check your usage and see how it compares with previous times.
Looks like you are making savings on your ongoing usage already but if you would like any help with this give our Energy Efficiency team a call on 0500 201000.
Also pop your details on to a comparison website and see how we do.
Hope this helps.

Why are you sending out energy monitors when your tariffs explicitly penalise and exclude those with a low consumption? 45p per kWh!
'Energy Efficiency' team? You mean 'Revenue Boosting' team! 45p per kWh!0 -

can you expand on that Kim?....your comment is rather scathing if not backed up by proof.0 -
E.ON - EnergyOnline Extra Saver 13
Standing charge 35.68p per day
Unit charge 9.671p0 -
erm, I see no mention of 45p per unit charge you mentioned in earlier post?
:A
If you use one kwh a day you effectively pay 45p for it. I know some people only look at the Tier 2 price or the price per unit without standing charge, but I reckon it into the cost. For us, a standing charge of 35p would put about 2.5p on to each kwh used in a day because we are high users (13-16kwh a day).0
