Comic Relief - do you give?

My boys persuaded me to buy a couple of the laughing noses in the supermarket last week:rolleyes: , boy do I regret that now:rotfl: , and they both took a pound each into school for the pleasure of going in their pjs:eek: , not a pretty sight I can tell you.
I kind of agree with everyone else. I feel that no matter how much money we donate to the African regions the problems will always be there due to the way they are governed, and yes I too got fed up of the parade of suffering families shown throughout the show, but we gave what was feesible within our budget. I just wonder how many celebs have done the same;) .:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j

For me, this was the best part of the night...

Hmmm.. We donate because however bad our own financial situation may be I firmly believe that our Comic Relief money goes to help people who are even worse off than we are.
I continue to hope that the government will make good on its promise to do more to ensure that everyone pays their fair share of tax so that there is enough money in the public purse to help more people who need it.
They need to eliminate tax shelters and punish the tax evasion on a huge scale that many Uk companies and wealthy individuals practise as a matter of course.
I too find myself wondering how much the famous face reminding me to donate has donated themselves....?

Celebs will have 'done their bit' - they earn more and so pay more in tax. A large proportion of the tax we all pay goes overseas. Millions and millions.
Not necessarily, most of the big earners aren't resident in the UK thus giving them lucrative tax breaks see this re footballers.
The same can be said for Robbie Williams, Tom Jones, Simon Cowell etc.DFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

True enough. Alot of them do charity work here though in any case.If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

Which is a fair enough point, but I suppose my point was proportionately ie percentage of income to donation, that's all, gets my goat.
Anyway if we wait long enough no doubt between 'em Madonna and Brad and Angelina will adopt and 'save' everyone.:pDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08

I have got to say that normally I would put a couple of quid in a bucket, but this year I have been so strapped for cash that I very rarely have any money in my purse and when a collecting bucket came round I did feel a bit embarressed that I didn't put anything in it.
Saying that tho, the last couple of years when I was working I did organise some fundraising events for the Meningitis Trust, the charity the company had chosen and my efforts raised £400 on both occaisions and as a company with different stores over the country we raised thousands.
With me being unemployed though I am currently volunteering for the charity Help for Heroes, which I think is a very worthy cause and could tell you loads of ways people give money, right from some kids who didnt want birthday presents but asked for any money and gave it to Help for Heroes right down to some guys doing bike rides or trekking Mt Kilamanjaro. And one that sticks in my mind was a lad who put a £1 on ebay auctioned it and got to give said £1 and money from the auction to Help for Heroes.new challenge?£1 a day for Christmas 2024 £367 / £366 ~Got married 24/05/19 ~ Credit CardDFW Nerd #1155 ~LBM 25/2/09 ~ Debt at highest £8,037.35 ~ £00 -

True. I sometimes think celebs can't win. If they privately give money to charity people assume they don't and think they are mean. If they publicly give money to charity people accuse them of doing it for the publicity.
I thought Robert Webb's rendition of Flashdance was worth my donation. I remember trying to do that dance when I was 12 and nearly breaking all my bones!0
