DD wanted to donate more tonight when she saw Dr Who on TV. I said that as she had lost her tooth today the tooth fairy would be visiting tonight, and if she wanted she could give this money. She said that she wanted to give the money to the poor boy who had to care for his parents.

That's lovely of her. I think it is so important that children learn what other people go through in life.
I gave a few quid. I also give to my local hospice and occasionally make cards that they can sell in their shop. I give to charity firstly because I have a vague irrational belief in karma. I also think that one day I may benefit from a charity, after all if you go to the CAB for debt advice you are benefitting from the services of a volunteer.0 -
I did donate a small amount into the collection at work. However, I give more to NSPCC and Cancer Research, as both are closer to my heart - and often overlooked when 'celebs' give such a high profile to events like Comic ReliefSometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0

I give occasionally. I gave tonight online. Those poor families in africa. We take so much for granted here. I was heartbroken by those little children dying of a disease that we could all help them get control of.
My dd asked if i would sponsor her for making a very long plait. It was her gesture that gave me the final push into donating. Our children seem to understand more than we do.:o2013 TARGET £30k

I havent bothered watching comic relief and I refuse to give them a donation because only 40% of the money raised is used in the UK, the remaining 60% goes to Africa....Africa is a huge money pit, no matter what money is poured in there nothing changes.
I donate clothes to one local charity and also buy stuff from there - a local hospice, I also donate to the Air Ambulance and fundraise and sponsor a local community charity called FastAid - I like to see where my money is going:D0 -
I give too, I figure the worst I have is (manageable) debt whilst the worst they have is malaria/starvation/death/neglect/abuse etc etc. No comparison. I give = my debt is here a wee bit longer but their suffering is a wee bit less. Hopefully.Herman - MP for all!

It's not as cut and dried as yes or no for me. I gave to Comic Relief for the first time tonight, only a fiver.
I occasionally donate to charities collecting on the street, if the cause is one that appeals to me, but only one or two pounds. The reason is that in my will, I have stipulated that the residue of my estate should be split between two charities close to my heart.
I hope that that will be a long time off yet!0 -

as a rule i dont give to charity. id rather do something (give my time) to a local charity or similar (help out the old guy down the street kinda thing).
also, i pay my taxes, this government gives aid, do i really need to give more? if we did pay higher taxes, sorted ourselves out and then focused on aiding people with the knowledge and tools to improve their standard of wellbeing in a gradual basis, then we'd root out poverty, illness, etc from the base up.Mr & Mrs Doomcow Wedding Fund: £10200/£18000 (by 04/2012) (spent £2000)
