Question about PAC code 30 day validity
I wonder if anyone can help me please
I applied for my PAC code from Orange on 27th Jan and I have today received my new O2 handset :j . I followed the online instructions re using my PAC code and I have just received a reply saying that the transfer will take place on 1st March.
My query is have O2 started the process today ie have they applied to use the code or will that only happen on 1st March? Will my PAC code still be valid or will I have to apply again?
I hope that someone in the know can help me here please _pale_

Your number transfer will take place on the 1st March. By the end of that day the number should be fully ported to the new o2 sim.
This is how it happened for me.
EDIT: Oops forgot to mention. Your pac code will have expired by then, > 30 days, so not sure what will happen now, maybe since the transfer request was made within the 30 days it would be fine. Just mail o2 and check with them but I think it should be ok.0 -
Thanks Genie.
I hade emailed O2 (also phoned but think I just confused them) nd got this reply:
"PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) expiration will not affect your number transfer as the PAC is being used to book the transfer request before its expiration.
All our mobile number transfer requests are booked on a centralised database so we are unable to process your request before 01 Mar 2006, which is the earliest date available for the number transfer.
Please be assured that your mobile number transfer will take place on 01 Mar 2006 irrespective of the PAC expiry date."
So I think that its ok cos they are using the code before it expires. What does everyone else think. I dont want to have to get another code and give Orange another 30 days notice. I know its my fault for not sorting it sooner
By the way how would I know if it had expired? Would O2 know by entering on their database? 0 -
I'm not sure of the entire technical workings of it but from what I've read and been told there is some sort of central Number Porting database that all the networks access. When you request a PAC, the original network put an entry in the database saying "this phone number is allocated this PAC code and has authority to leave, if not used, delete from database in 30 days (in your case 27th Feb say). You give the PAC to the new network, they enter it iinto the database, if it finds the PAC, it makes a link and the 2 networks then arrange a porting date between them, it also says, don't delete this record now as it is being used.
(and if you desperately want to know how it works in it's technical entireity

The 30 days rule just means you have to give it to the new network before then. In your case you have given it to o2 before the 30days was up so even though it won't port through till the 1st of March, you will be fine.0

Thanks guys.
Thats what I thought about it being ok since I gave it to O2 before the 30 days was up but just panicked when was told transfer not til 1st March.
Have also had emails from O2 confirming this0 -
Hi
Update about previous post.
Today is supposed to be number porting day but nothing has happened. I have emailed o2 to be told that due to a technical error it hasn't occured but should do in the next 48 hours.
My question is when does my contract end with my existing network Orange? I used my PAC code only just within my 30 days. Will I be billed for another month or just on an daily basis until the number ports over?0 -

Anyone??????

Your contract ends with Orange as normal (if you gave 30-days notice).
