ARGOS Won't honour Stars Wars DVD Web price

  • Just looked on the Argos website, on the initial screen it states £14.99 but when you add it to your basket it becomes £23.99 !!! >:(
  • Argos are famous for this
What exactly do you think you can do about it?
The law is on their side - why would they want to sell it to you at this cheaper price?

Don't let them tell you that no-one got this at £14.99 - that's a clear lie, as I got two and at least two of my work colleagues also got them at £14.99 (all from the Aylesbury store yesterday).
Do we have a case for complaining to the ASA for misleading advertising, or are they OK if they claim this was a genuine error?  There seem to be an awful lot of cases of "genuine errors" lately, which seem to be helping to drive up associated sales (e.g. Empire Stores, Tesco etc.)
The reason I'm concerned is that my wife is off to pick up a copy of Scooby Doo2 from the Bicester branch this evening.  She's not going to be a happy bunny if I send her out to collect a non-existent bargain!!
UPDATE - My wife just called to say she collected the SD2 DVD at the advertised £5.99

Just returned from 30 mile round trip to collect the DVD box set I reserved yesterday.

I checked the web page this morning to make sure still at 14.99 and took a print out of web page with me.

Came up on toperators till at £23.99 queried this and manager was called, he phoned head office who advised "it is s pricing error and Argos are aware of it". I asked why it was therefore still on web page.?? "It will be removed shortly" he said. (that was at 12pm)

He advised that Argos can get out of it as they state "the price you pay is the price instore on the day you collect item". I argued that the item clearly states available for store pick up only so how can they sate a price online and then charge more when you get to the shop?

He wasn't happy and wouldn't sell to me for this price.

Phoned head office who advised that they have already spoken to Manager and advised him not to sell at this price.

Local trading standards say that they don't have to sell at the stated price! ( I thought they had under some pricing advertising law but seemingly not!)

    watchdog next????

I have already contacted Watchdog. I don't think it's right that they lied to a lot of us telling us all different stories whilst there are still people today being able to obtain copies of said DVD.

If it was a misprice why are certain stores still allowing it for £14.99?? Again if it was a misprice, if you are going to honour the prices for some people, why not all? All you can do is complain and hopefully Argos, in the spirit of Christmas and a goodwill gesture, will honour it. Remember the Gamecube thread anyone? ;)

If anyone does want to contact Watchdog click on shopping and then high street shops.

    sonic-heroes,

You travelled 30 miles to get the reduction – that's dedication, or principle. Don't forget that at £24.99, it's still £10 cheaper than HMV.

They sell for that (including postage) on Ebay, so if you came home empty handed, you may still have missed a good deal.

I took along a print-out showing that the "price today" was stated as £14.99 and they made phone calls, but the manager gave me the price. Otherwise, he would have needed to compensate for a wasted journey. All a bit stressfull though!

    Good luck
    Graham
