Virgin Rant

How can Virgin Media offer new customers a tariff of (after the 3 month introductory offer) a £22.75 offer for the same thing I'm paying £35 for. My OH rang them up and asked why, and the non-English speaking reading off a sheet man said there was nothing he could do. Anyway, after being put through to an English speaking man, my OH was told that we couldn't have that price. So we asked to discontinue our contract and sign up again with the new offer. No can do. We must pay extortionate price, only brand spanking shiny new customers could have this offer. So OH asked could we terminate our contract as we'd rather sign up with Sky who also were offering a cheaper option. We were told we could pay £50 to do so but it would be a lot of hassle and paper work. Fine, OH said, we'd like to pay that £50 and we'd switch to Sky as it would still work out cheaper. Sorry, said Mr Virgin man, he couldn't do that for us.

WHAT!?

URGH...

I feel a letter of complaint may be in order.

How can companies get away with making loyal customers (we've been with them for over 2years now) pay ridculous prices compared with shiny new customers?

if your out of your 12 month contract i don`t see how they can charge you to leave, as i thought they had stopped that con a while back (used to charge "admin cost" when you closed an account) give them another call and mention there web page that says ALL customer pay the same price (but only if you mention it and kick up a fuss) http://www.virginmedia.com/wehearyou/OffersForAll.html
  • Rang them up, was put through to disconnections, and now have same price
    :)
    Woop!
  • What package do you have? I'm interested in seeing if someones getting something cheaper than I am!

Alwats ask to go through to retentions with Virgin, very rare that they let people l;eave and always offer you better deals. They normally do it for a few months and put the price back up and then call retentions again

I have queried my charges with Virgin a couple of times in the past and have always received a discount. They tell me that although I have been with them since 2007,my contract rolls over each year, so the best time to haggle and threaten to leave is just before the anniversary date!

Sounds like a good time to write a letter of complaint.

Guys, every year I go one month over my 12 month contract and tell them I want to disconnect, mention the words BT or Sky and they are more than happy to offer a new customer deal. It seems the more you complain with VM the more you get. Although they don't always apply the credits they tell you that they are going to.

I have now been with VM (since days of NTL and Telewest) for about 10 yrs. The past 5 yrs I have had a new contract every 13th months. It pays to do it.
