If people can't afford to bring up children, then surely they shouldn't have them? They don't have to have them – it is a lifestyle choice.
Here endeth todays lesson.0 -
Maybe. Without kids I believe life is utterly pointless, meaningless. Our purpose, if indeed we have a purpose, is to procreate - and the sense of wholeness and fulfilment from that most basic function brings meaning to life.
Here endeth todays lesson.
I disagree (well, for me and others around me). I think having children can actually prevent humans (especially women) from achieving their potential. I know if I had children I would not be able to focus properly on either them or the other productive things I do in life – but then I am an 'all or nothing person'.
And I definitely don't think you should have them if you don't have an inclination to do so, just because pressure is put on you to follow the herd. I would hope some of us have evolved enough to utilize our brain, rather than to merely follow instinct. I do really worry about the state of the planet, and think it is debatable whether one should bring children into this world when the human population is already so huge. Thinking as I do, it would be very selfish of me to procreate.0 -

Too true, it's the price we pay to fulfil our maternal instincts and to ensure the survival of the species. And I definitely don't think you should have them if you don't have an inclination to do so, just because pressure is put on you to follow the herd. And you should definitely follow your own instinct on such an important life decision. There are far too many unloved children in this world, that's for sure.0 -

I see what you mean, but on that logic anyone that is unable to have children for medical reasons may as well kill themselves due to their pointlessness of their life. Which seems a bit harsh.0 -

Having children, teaching them, helping them grow and turn into decent human beings is one of the most productive things that anyone can do. Male or female.
Having children, passing them at 2 weeks off into daycare, and taking them on holiday once a year, isn't really productive.
Our society will depend on future generations, if everyone treated raising children as seriously as their full time job, giving it the same level of commitment and investing the same thought and consideration, then we may be able to produce a future society that's a bit better than the one we've got.0 -

If everyone stopped having kids because of the impact on the planet then what would be the point of the planet. Who would live on it?
Who will look after you in years to come, whether you have enough money to ensure financial stability is one thing, but god forbid, you end up in hospital it will be the kids of today and tomorrow looking after you.
The planet is here for us to live on and enjoy, if there is no one left to do that then all the work people put into savings the planet is useless and pointless.0 -

Lmao! Erm, I'm not able to...equipment not there anymore.
Not that I would want another one anyway! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Are you in the real world here? How on earth are can you stop someone who has 8 kids having a 9th? Seriously think about what you are saying!Personally I wouldn't begrudge my money being used if it went on conservation measures and trying to prevent severely threatened and persecuted species from becoming extinct by whatever means possible. There are far too many humans on this planet because we selfishly and unthinkingly continue to procreate 'because our parents did it'. We are destroying the Earth (and at the same time our own species).

I'm actually amazed that anyone would want to bring more people into the world, given what is facing us.
Right. Everyone listen up. Stop having children because someone wrote a rather "glass half empty" article. 50 years ago who would have thought those big valved calculating machines would evolve into a modern computer capable of sending message and photograph to people on the other side of the world.
We will adapt and deal with future problems using methods and technologies that we have no idea about now. Educating the children of today is a critical part of our survival.0 -

Not having children stops people existing.
If your parents did not have you, you would not exist, if you never existed what potential can you have.
What is a man's and womans "potential" we are just animal on a planet with many other animals.0
