Whats this about ebay forcing DVD sellers to put Free P&P?

Yep, DVDs must now be sold with 'free' postage, so the item cost is all that you can charge.

I noticed in the last week that the average number of items that come up under 'Topshop' has gone from about 17000 to about 20-21000, so 4000 to 5000 items of absolute cr*p. All the good stuff is selling for less too...or at least I've managed a few bargains...good for buyers who can be bothered to trawl.

Those T&C don't sound like forcing someone - sounds like you can opt in or not.

I have seen alot of sellers listing as free P&P and then adding postage in the content. Sounds like they are trying to get the reduction in final value fees and still charge postage

Getting suspended for breach of terms is a great way of saving on ebay fees.

No , sellers cannot charge p and p on DVDs, the bit cut and pasted above is a sweetner to keep the fVFs low for a few weeks until people get used to the idea and then get whacked by the full amount. There are still some people who seem able to actually add p and p to the listing, but most cannot the box for p and p is actually greyed out. If they are then stupid enough to try and add it later they will soon be gone.

Also, a vigilante buyer merely has to bid the 1p or whatever and pay the invoice. The seller can rant and whine all they like about wanting another £2 for postage but cannot force buyer to pay more. So all that happens is seller gets a neg and a non performing seller complaint.

They don't, they take a loss. There are still sellers out there who believe that anything can sell on ebay regardless of actual worth and are probably very shocked when they get such a low bid on something they expected to fetch more.

There will be a lot more of this happening due to the free 99p listings as people will risk 99p starts and hope that their item fetches a more realisic price, but then get stuck when it sells on opening bid.

  • Have just discovered that if you want to list an item for 99p you CAN put a reserve on it BUT the reserve HAS to be at least £50 so what is the point?

Also forgot to add in another fee that sellers must pay - VAT to ebay for using their auction service and this only shows up on the invoice NOT the fees you think you are paying when you load up your auctions. Easy to forget that one eh?????

vat is included in the listing fee which is clearly stated before you submit a listing
