Grey on tickover, black puff of smoke at high revs.
The cars definately lacking a bit of ooomph (noticeable uphill although it's only a 1.4). Timing belts not been done, We're about halfway between Haynes (50k) and Ford (100k) recommendations (75k).

check your air filter and air hoses,it sounds daft but sometimes things get stuck in the air hoses. i once had a similar fault with a vw, it had a massive chunk of blue paper stuck in the air hose between the filter and the manifold.

Grey smoke at tickover is unburnt fuel.

Are any of the cylinders making a knocking sound?

There is a definate smell of unburnt fuel when you exit the car. None of the cylinders are knocking.

Just to say, this has only happened since I changed all the injector seals. (this was to cure exhaust fumes in the cabin and also a tick tick tick from under the bonnet which it has successfully).

As all the hoses on the top end have been off, i'll check them all and see if there's anything blocking them.

I used to have an old diesel and before the test treat it to a treatment of Millers XFE fuel treatment. (Diesel specific). As stated before take it for a good blast before the test and make sure it is warm. That always did the trick.
